well, we survived! HURRRRRAH!
i left adelaide with a heavy heart and a massive hangover! to be honest, i didn't wanna go. met so many great people and everythin was rosy that i just wanted to stay, but things change and people move so i had to as well. so hard sayin good bye to janina though, she is such a star! not long till east coast in january! journey from adelaide to alice springs was pretty long! stopped off overnight in coober pedy which was great. we stayed undergroundin a cave like thing which was great coz was sooooo cool compared to the central australian heat. and they mine opals there so we got to learn a bit about them and day dream about all the beautiful jewellarr they make!
we arrived in alice and went from dinner and prepared ourselves fro yet another early mornin and more driving! we went to kata juta which is actually taller than ayers rock and we went for a walk. a strong theme for the 3 days was walkin in the heat! it was beautiful though and we were thoroughly proud of ourselves for makin it round and not turnin back! sunset at ayers rock wasn't that impressive to be honest and i was a little disappointed, no amazin colours just lots of tourists there for the same thing. our 'budget' accomdation for the night turned out to be a swag! which is just like a big waterproof sleepin bag than u put your own sleepin back into....no house, no, room, no roof! hhmmmmm! once i got over my inital reservations it wasn't that bad..although did go to sleep with my fly net over my head, just in case! sian on theother hand couldn't do it, the insects were all a bit much for her and she went to sleep on our bus!
next mornin we were up before dawn to go and see the sunrise at uluru! again, i wasn't that impressed as it is just a big rock. i was that tired we didn't even do the base walk, a little bit ashamed to admit that but i was so disheartened by the whole thing that we sunbathed just beside it! don't think our guide was too happy with our decision but never mind!
the final day was kings canyon! which was AMAZING! it was a massive canyon and another 3.5 hour walk in the heat but i thoroughly enjoyed it. we set off up heart attack hill(!!!!) and completed the walk! there is a beautiful place called the garden of eden half way through the walk which was gorgeous and shaded and had a water hole which was suprisingly full after the previous weeks monster downpoor! and we did kinda bump into a wild dingo! i have to admit i was alittle bit scared and my throat tightened and all i could manage to do was point and whisper dog until someone else noticed! we let him go on his way and we went on ours...more walkin!
all in all, i'm glad i went just to say i'd seen it...after all u can't come to oz with goin to uluru..it's famous. but in retrospect a week on a beach in fiji may have been more appealin! haha
now i am stayin in alice until xmas, i feel like i'm gonna melt it's sooooooo hot!! workin in the hostel and everyone seems really friendly which is good. it's no backpack oz though, that truly is the trad'st place in town!
