We had chosen our accomadation near the lovely Albert Park so we could do the 8am Parkrun.
Yes I know this is not what normal people do on a holiday but ..... Anyway we woke to a cold wet morning so felt quite at home with the running conditions. The locals were all dressed in their winter running gear but we didn't pack any of that and now I realised I should have packed more winter clothes. The run was fast and flat round a large lake with the iconic black swans of Melbourne. The Australian Grand Prix uses the road around the park so I will be watching that next year to see if I recognise it. This week Graham failed to get first in his age group but I did as well as a PB so well chuffed.
We could walk to the city centre so saw the sights and tram tour which found a few geocaches . We had heard about the penguins coming ashore every night at dusk on Philip Island which is a bit of a tourist attraction. We found out they also come ashore on St Kilda Pier which was quite close. We ventured down to St Kilda in the evening where the kite surfers were putting on a fantastic display of their skills in the strong winds and freezing temperatures. We went to the end of the pier where there are the volunteers who shine red torches on the penguins in the rocks. You are not allowed to use white light or flash photography. We did see some penguins so it was a successful trip but it was so cold that we didn't stay very long.
