Finally arrived in Lima after a day on the plane! First 2 flights were delayed but got here eventually. I don't think I will ever get used to flying 12 hours straight but that was the longest journey we have to do.
First impressions, Lima looks a little scary when leaving the airport. Luckily we had a transfer waiting on us. He locked us in his car because he said we may get snatched (or our bags) when in transit which kinda freaked us out at first!!! Beggers chapping on the taxi windows at every traffic light as well which was an experience.
It's very different where we are staying though in the Miraflores district... more like a tourist resort... the beach is only 10mins walking distance from the hostel and we are on the main street with shops open 24hours a day - supermarket across the road as well.
Hostel is very basic. The "garden terrace" we are supposed to have is basically an extension to our room but with no roof so we can see the sky but it is enclosed by 4 high walls! Cant complain though... the people here are lovely, we have a double private ensuite and there is a roof top garden where you can listen to music, play board games, meet new people and chill out.
Think we might get Spanish lessons whilst here as no-one can speak English. Today we walked to the beach and lay around on the roof top terrace at the hostel relaxing (with a local beer of course). Planning on doing the same for the remainder of the time we are here as we will need our energy for Machu Pechu in a few days.
Treating ourselves to a champagne dinner tonight to celebrate our honeymoon in a lovely restaurant down by the beach (thanks to Louise and Kenny!)
Love
