Long journey today! 3 and a half hours to the ferry, then got to stretch our legs for 45 minutes. Was chaotic getting on the ferry. We had to get out of the mini-bus, and then wait around for a little bit. But when we were going down the pedestrian gang-plank to get to the ferry, there were scooters driving on there with us, they don't go down the vehicle part!?
We had a quick toilet stop shortly after the ferry. All the toilets were squats - Therese couldn't use them!
Then another hour and a half to the service stop, which was very nice actually. Huge restaurant and proper toilets that were clean - yes, that's a luxury now. We had this weird rice ball thing. Looked like a light shade from Ikea, but tasted really sweet - was pretty nice (got a picture of it).
And finally 2 more hours to our hotel in Ho Chi Minh City!
Was a long journey. Bumpy again! Lots of bridges, and they don't seem to make nice smooth joints between the bridge and the road, so every time we hit one, my head nearly hit the roof!
We had a short rest before we went to venture out. As with all these countries, bloody scooters everywhere. Think this is supposed to be literally the worst country in the world for scooters. It's just madness. And then, there's a junction...actually, the word junction sounds organised so it's not even a junction...there's just a load of roads that meet in one place and there's scooters, buses and cars flying at you from all directions! You can't wait at the zebra crossing for people to stop, you just go. Close your eyes, start walking, and hopefully you don't get hit. As long as you don't try walk too fast, and never ever stop, just keep walking.
Went across to Ben Tham Market but it wasn't that good. The people selling grab your arm too, which is annoying "Mr, look! What you want? What you looking for?". Then it started absolutely throwing it down, so we just wandered around the Market a bit more.
Was still raining, so we went for a coffee and cheesecake at Highlands Coffee!
We met with our group back at the hotel to go out for some tea. And a new couple from Ireland has joined us now who are about our age. Two people also leave our tour from tomorrow.
We went for meal at Vietnamese Aroma. Not bad, a little bland and a small serving but cheap - 59,000 Dong (less than £2) per meal.
After that, we went for a drink in Go2 - weird waiter hovering over us all the time and randomly massaging people in our group so we left that place after 1 drink. Decided to find a more local bar. 20,000 (70p) for a large tiger - would cost something daft like £5 in UK. Nice and cheap!
Had a few and then back to the hotel around midnight - need to be up for a tour in the morning!
