Finally had a bit of a lie in. Both woke up with sore heads though - not drinking enough water and perhaps too much beer last night.
We all met for breakfast this and then went for a walk to the Old Quarter. Oh and it's finally very sunny for us! Not too warm either, just right.
In the Old Quarter they have small areas, like maybe a street, that only sells one type of thing e.g. Toys or shoes or bags. And there's loads of them. It's quite good if you are looking for one particular thing.
We took a new type of transport today - cyclo! 2 seats at the front and a bicycle at the back. The guy tried to charge us 200,000 Dong (£10) to start with, but Therese got them down to 100,000 Dong (£5) - she's a proper hard faced bargainer.
We all got one and they took us on a little tour around one of the lakes and around the Old Quarter. Around the lake was nice... a bit dicey - they just drive straight into traffic and you always have a near miss. Got a few videos of it all! The Old Quarter was nice but it got a bit too busy with the traffic. All you can hear is beeping horns, and all the fumes coming from the scooters and cars. It was supposed to last an hour but the cheeky sods only took us for 40 minutes! We told them and they just kept saying very cheap. They tried to get us to pay double as well, only in a joking way though. Think that's what you get sometimes when you barter them down, but we had been told by our tour to only pay around that. We'd had enough anyway so we paid up and went to have a look around some shops.
Mine and Therese's trainers absolutely stink! It's from all the rain we had in Hoi An and they took a while to days to dry out. We looked around to buy some new ones but decided to try get ours washed and then see how they are.
Me, Therese, Dan and Sue stopped off for some lunch at Le Pub again - that's where we were drinking last night and we'd seen that they do so some good food. We all had burgers and shared nachos - yeah, western food again! We just can't possibly eat rice and noodles all day everyday.
Did some more wandering around the shops and then made our way up to West Lake. But we wanted one last adrenaline rush...on the back of a moto! Had to barter the moto guys down from 40,000 Dong (£1.40) to 20,000 Dong (70p). So funny shooting around on them. They don't go at stupid speeds though at all, it's just weaving in and out of traffic. Arrived at 'a' lake but we weren't actually sure we were at the right one. We asked the bike guys and they said yes but we still wasn't so sure - the lake didn't look big enough. Anyway we got off and they tried getting us to pay more. Tried giving us the wrong change - proper cowboys they were! And then we realised we weren't at the right lake...it was only a 5 minute walk from where they dropped us to it though. This is what I mean about haggling too much.
So we got to the right lake anyway, and it's huge. Me and Therese, and Dan and Sue got a swan pedal boat out each and went out into the lake. It was nice and relaxing out there away from the hustle and bustle. Could still hear the manic in the distance though. We sat out there for about half an hour in the sun and the peace and quiet. Then we realised that we'd drifted quite far out and thought we best set off back...20 minutes it took! Our legs were killing.
We met up at 7pm to go for our final meal! We went to Cafe 69 which Therese had read about. Had a nice little private room and had to take our flip flops off and sit on the floor. The food started off pretty good, but then our mains had chicken leg meat rather than breast - not nice in curry. Wasn't bad and was still very cheap anyway.
After the meal we went for some drinks at Pub Corner. It's a junction with two bars and the seating spills out onto the road...cheap beer too!! Haha, it's always cheap beer. We feel like we are being ripped off when anything costs a pound!
Then we went on to a place called Mao's Red Lounge. Gregory had mentioned the place before but we didn't know where it was...we only found it because we could hear the music blasting out. It's a nice place and the music is really good. Spent a couple of hours in there and got back to the hotel around 1am.
Had a good night out and said our final goodbyes to everybody as most of them are on early flights home tomorrow.
Just the two of us again from tomorrow!
