We woke when we wanted today. No alarms, no bus to catch, no trip to be ready for - just free time! We decided to go for a stroll around the island. You can hire Scooters but the roads are sandy and there are huge hills that the scooter struggles to get up and the breaks are unreliable when going down - so we walked. I was chief navigator with my map to hand! I found a little shop where a man sat making hair accessories and jewellery. I treated myself to a beautiful little headband then we continued on. On the map it showed a path to sharks bay, freedom beach. We took the turn and started walking up the hill. The hill turned into a mountain! What comes up must come down... Yeah well that flipping saying doesn't say what goes up goes up and up and up! I took a sneaky picture of Lee walking behind me. He sounded like Darth Vader! We met a woman on the way who'd decided to tackle the route too. She was power walking! When we got to the top the views were worth it! We were the only ones there (the woman had cut off down a little path to a different beach) and the sky was a beautiful colour. The palm trees framed the landscape. I couldn't stop taking pictures. We headed down and ended up walking through a resort. They had the most amazing wild flowers growing around the bungalows. They were beautiful colours.
As the sun was setting we were making our way down the 'mountain' onto the beach. It was a hike down. When we got to the bottom of the dirt track we found the beach! We climbed over some rocks to see the most stunning framed sunset. The trees curved around the sunset as a Longboat anchored in the centre! There were lots of weird little bugs on the rocks so we climbed down onto the following beach were there were private bungalows, rightly named sunset bungalows. The sun was on its way down which meant we still had time to get to Freedom beach before dark so off we went up the steep steps of the bungalows looking for the path to take us to the next beach. We climbed through bushes, trees, over rocks then hit a dead end (which was a shack at the end of the cliff). We turned back and headed back to the beach. A girl who was staying in one of the bungalows asked if we wanted a taxi back. Lee practically shouted yes! We were on the other side of the island to where we were staying so it would have been pitch black if we were to try and walk back so the girl rang a taxi for us. Apparently the sunset bungalow taxi charges four times more so she had a cheap taxi number. Whilst we were waiting on the beach we watched the sunset (with a huge bottle of water each). It is an unreal feeling standing on a quiet beach whilst the sun sets. We headed back in the taxi, in the darkness. The road we walked up was a scary road to drive down, even in the big 4x4 taxi. The tracks so steep with sharp bends and no barriers.
We got back, washed and got changed. We lay on the bed for a minute. After that walk just lying down, clean, feels superb! Then we headed out to catch a film in one of the bars along serenity beach. Walking along we heard a band playing on the beach so we decided to get something to eat here. We ate, we drank. It was one of the best nights! Me and Lee shared a bucket whilst the band sang Roxanne. Everytime they sang Roxanne the boys had to drink and everytime they sang red light the girls had to drink... Do you know how many times those words are in that song? Loads! The band did requests and they could sing anything from scatman to teardrops. They even did a few tenacious dee numbers 'the greatest song in the world'. We were in our element then they brought out the fire! The fire dancers started then they brought a skipping rope out, lit it on fire and began swinging. We both had a couple of jumps (got a free shot) then I did fire limbo (got a free shot) then Lee did the ring of flames! That was scary! I gave that one a miss! It had an amazing atmosphere! We loved bans bar!
When we were leaving we went to put our flip flops on (you have to take your shoes off before you enter) and both our flip flops had been stolen! We had to walk back bare footed! Luckily we were both a bit merry so we didn't care walking the 20min walk back!!!! Plus Lees were broken so we laughed a little evil laugh then remembered mine were fine :( oh look a cat... (squirrel) Happy times.
