We arrived at Maan Haad, Koh Tao. We made our way to the meeting point (7/11) and found the lady owner of the guesthouse, Captain Nemo, waiting for us. She grabbed my bag and marched us down the road and up the street to our guesthouse. We talked for quite a while. She gave us a map, directions, recommendations, told us the rules to the guesthouse, past stories of customers. Her husband told us how to do a visa run (then showed us - mocking Lees question of 'is it hard/ time consuming').
She showed us to our room which was like an apartment. Yeah it had a window facing the corridor so we had no idea if it was hot or cold, sunny or night but it had hot water, a fridge/freezer, aircon, fan, tv, DVD player, wardrobe, dressing table. Just basic things we'd missed (for me a hot shower and a fridge. For Lee a fridge and aircon).
We emptied our bags (barely filling our wardrobes - showing the lack of clothes I've got to work with - excusing Lees repetitive clothing choice in our photos) then headed down stairs for the lady owner, i think her name was Sim, to clean Lees dog bites. When she saw them she thought they'd looked infected and offered to clean them. Whilst she did that i got us some baguettes then we headed for our first day of scuba diving school.
It was hard work! In our class there was me, Lee, Dave (Oz), instructor James (NZ) and lead instructor Mark (Kent,UK). Dave didn't really get Marks sense of humor so it was funny watching how seriously Dave took what Mark said...
We sat in the class room watching a DVD, then doing a test, then listening to the teacher. We left with homework and were told to be back for 7am the following day ready for our first dive.
As we were walking down towards our guesthouse we saw Gareth and Penny. They were getting the ferry back to the mainland at 8 so they'd come to meet for a Valentines tea. We went along the shore to watch the sunset then went for food (the pictures were beautiful but me and Lee weren't looking our best - we hadnt had chance to wash). We said our goodbyes as we walked them to the port then headed back to the room to shower then we passed out.
