The bus pulled into the station late afternoon. It was a very basic station; more a car park. Lee had google maps up and running so we went for a walk. Lee had been able to sleep for the Mikita of the bus ride but I had just fell asleep about 20mins before we arrived so I was definitely half asleep whilst walking. We did a lap of a block. When I saw the bus stop again I had a look at the map and we worked out hostel world has put the hostel on the wrong street and google maps is rubbish. It said we were in a completely different street to where we were and didn't know some streets existed so we went back to our old routine were one waits with the bags whilst the other looks. Protective Lee made me move to a busy area before he left me alone. I told him I know martial arts but when he's in serious mode that's not funny....
The towns tiny so he found it straight away. We knew to look out for a bicycle on the wall with a door next to it... There was I name outside to label the hostel but we took the risk and it worked. We were in. We did the same routine of throwing the bags in, claiming a bed in the dorm then heading out. The towns do strange. It looks quite poor, not run down but not well maintained then you make a turn and its like you've stepped back in time. There are horse and carts (except the young lads leading them are texting) the streets are cobbled, the buildings are beautiful and very well maintained. It looks like an old country town except here the buildings are not homes they've been turned into restaurants and shops. All overpriced specifically for tourists. As beautiful as it is it has a fake edge to it. This isn't Paraty. It's what Paraty used to look like but it feels it sold out to tourism, kicking the locals out of the beautiful houses. I don't know whether that's true it's just how we felt because of the contrast of actual homes here to this street.
That being said tourist traps are usually so beautiful. These streets have artsts painting away, musicians, touts. It is a pretty place.
After exploring the town we were hungry so we gave up looking at the prices in the restaurants and headed to the supermarket and bought tea. We cooked some cheese and ham rosaries then sat around the table and got talking to the people around the table. We bought the ingredient for caipirinhas and all had a go at making them.its the spirit, ice and lime. Oh and sugar. It's a strong drink. Lee had bought beers too so we sat up drinking and talking then went to bed.
