We had a trip booked for today. I'd checked the weather and it wasn't looking very promising for an island hopping snorkel cruise but hey hoe, let's go!
We eat breakfast then strolled through the town to the dock. Our boat looked like a pirate ship. We climbed to the top deck and pulled up a couple of loungers, pushed them together then lay down. All of a sudden the sunburst it's way through the clouds, as if on que and tried its best to tan us.
Shortly after the boat had left the harbour the sun was back hiding behind the clouds so tanning today was a no but they had caipirinhas and Skol. The first snorkel spot was a little too soon. I wasn't psyched enough to get in the water. It was a little cool with the sun hiding and I didn't have warm clothes with me. We could see some fish from the top of the boat anyway so not getting in wasn't a total loss. Lee was the same. We both stayed on. By the second stop I wanted to go in. Lee was being a big girl and chose to stay on the boat.
I was talking to a Canadian and an American girl getting off the boat. They had never snorkelled so I became their teacher. First thing I noticed was the visibility was rubbish. I could barely see my hand in front of me. Secondly was it's not hard to teach someone to snorkel. She couldn't master breathing through her mouth and kept coming up saying she couldn't breath so my advice to that was 'if you feel you cant breath whilst face down in the water, don't come up, stay faced down. You will breath through your mouth. Either that or drown'. It worked! She didn't drown!
It wasn't sunny so there was no point sitting on the beach and the water had rubbish visibility (most likely due to the rain yesterday) so after this stop we just stayed on the boat. When I got back on the boat Lee was talking to a couple from Manchester. The girl sounded like my friend Jo. Not like a stereotypical Manc. It's a lovely accent anyway. As I was drip drying she pulled out her foundation and reapplied her makeup...
It started raining a little so we all went to the deck, under the canopy. We had a few drinks on the boat then decided to head to a bar after the trip.
They wanted to get changed so we went with them to their room then headed out for food and drinks. The Jazz Festival started today so we headed to the main stage! We had a drink in the bar next to it then decided to call it a night. Lee was a little tidderely. He'd been drinking shots....
When we were back at the hostel I realised we didn't have a drink. We didn't want to chance drinking from the tap so we just went bed.
I woke with a start when I heard banging on the hostel gate outside. I bent over into Lees bunk below to ask if he heard it. Lee wasn't there. It was Lee! I ran out the hostel into the garden to open the gate. Lee was stood, soaking wet through with a bottle of water in his hand. He said 'don't speak to me' and stormed past me and got into bed. I gave him a minute to get comfy in his bunk (and calm down) then said 'what the?' Turns out he'd gone to get me some water, it had started pouring down, the gate had locked and he'd been stood there for an hour banging on the gate. I couldn't help but burst out laughing. To which Lee then saw the funny side. To rub salt in his tired wounds as he finished telling me his story somebody knocked on the gate and the hostel man, who had locked the gate and was on guard to open it, jumped up and opened it.... 3 times this happened. Like me, the hostel man had fell asleep. I didn't know Lee had left the hostel to get a drink so I was sound asleep. I drank the full bottle of water before drifting off. Thanks Lee! Lee was asleep almost as soon as his head touched the pillow. Normally I would have woke him to say 'your snoring is shaking the dorm' but I let him snore away.
