Cafayata today. Pick up was at 7am so we were up and waiting in the kitchen when the doorbell rang for us.
We jumped on the little white minibus and were met by everyone saying 'buenos dias' as we walked to a seat at the back. A lovely warm welcome. Me and lee were the only English and there was an Australian couple. Again the average age was 40+ the bus tour guide spoke fluent English so we got a full tour today. No guess work needed on what's happening next or what they're all looking out the window at. We drove through a desert land. There were trees that were all green. The trunk, branches and leaves all green! The guide was brilliant he was pointing out faces in the rocks, lizards, boats and frogs all formed in the rocks.
First stop the devils throat. The guide took our pic as we climbed up a wall. I didn't know we'd be doing any climbing so I had my dress on. Still I don't like to miss out so I climbed in the most lady like way possible. We went to the natural amphitheatre next. People sat outside selling things they'd made, inside there was a man singing. The sound echoed around the walls. It was huge and amazing to stand in and listen and admire the huge formation.
We drove a little further to a view point. Me and lee climbed to the top. It was called 3 crosses because the mountains met in 3 different places. The guide asked us if we wanted a romantic pic..... We said why not? Ha it was of me and lee sat on the floor.
A few more picturesque stops later we arrived at a winery. There were no English speaking guides so the bus tour guide showed us around the museum. This place had a swimming pool area that used to be filled with grapes for lots of people to jump on. Disgusting when you think of the sweat and dirt. They lit fires under the pool to speed the process (and add extra sweat). The white wine here is used from the same grape as moscato so it smells really sweet but when you drink it it tastes like a dry Chardonnay. Not for me. Me and Lee didn't like the reds here either.
We drove into Cafayate and stopped off at a souvenir shop. They gave us home brewed wine as we entered (like a strong sweet liquor- lee drank mine) and a fig... Lee eat mine.
We jumped back on the bus and headed for Cafayate plaza. We headed into a restaurant and all sat at a long table. Me and lee ordered BBQ'd goat and the waiter accidentally gave us a corn thing with meat in the middle that had been grilled in banana leaves and shaped in to a ball. Apparently it is a local delicacy. I wouldn't chose to eat it again. When the goat came it was nice. I wouldn't order that again either. After lunch we had free time to wonder around. It's a nice town so we bought an ice cream (to share coz we're romantic like that - and it's cheaper) we took a few pics then sat in the park in the sun.
The drive back only had one stop to take a group pic then it was a direct run to salta.
I wasn't feeling very well so we went straight to bed when we got back and just watched a film in the room and had an early night
