It was so nice having a bit of a lie in yesterday! Majority of us booked a snorkelling trip which set off at 9:00am. We sailed for a hour then jumped into the sea - the water was so clear and there was some cool fish. We snorkelled for about 2 hours then got back on the boat which took us to a deserted beach for some lunch - they cooked us fresh tuna with rice which was yummy! We then sailed back to our beach but a bit further out at sea so more choppy which left a few of us feeling queezy however we passed the time by telling riddles, one of the guides caught a big fish and we saw dolphins! When we got back no showers were working for a couple of hours so we washed off in the pool then headed out for our beach bar crawl and dinner at 17:30 - in time for happy hour!!!
This morning we checked out at 8:00am and headed to a spice plantation for a tour. We got to smell/try various spices and fruits - pepper, cinnamon, curry leaf, all spice leaf, ginger, tumeric, lemon grass, cinnamon root which is the smell of Vic vapour rub, vanilla, jasmine, iodine, tea leaf, coffee, yellow banana, red banana, Zanzibar apple, grapefruit, necturine, avocado, pappaya, watermelon, pineapple, green orange and coconut to name a few! A man demonstrated how they climb the coconut tree, he chopped open fresh coconut so we could drink the milk and then cut the flesh out for us - delicious! They also painted our faces with colour that came out a fruit, this is what the Masai use, and they made us crowns out of palm leaves.
After our tour we continued onto Stone Town, Zanzibars main town which is very historic. There is a Arab fort and a historic slave market which some of the group had a tour of however we chose not to. We spent some time in the post office trying to arrange sending clothes home which we used at kili and don't want to lug around, it was surprisingly cheaper than we thought - fingers crossed it actually arrives!! This evening we went to the local food market, everyone causious about eating anything as no one wants poorly tummies! Some braved the food including Ben who had a Zanzibar pizza and we both tried Sam's sugar cane juice which was lush..we watched the man crush and drain the juice which was very cool. We are now back at the hotel for an early night as we are back to early starts and camping tomorrow when we leave Zanzibar and head back to main land. We will be sad to leave as it is beautiful here!
