Kinda tough to remember what has happened since the last update, not a lot thinking about it.
We went and bought a mapbook of Australia so we can plan our driving route. We're basically going through as many National Parks as possible without going too far out of the way, to get to Adelaide, then we're driving down the Great Ocean Road, which is supposed to be the best scenic drive in the world, and then onto Melbourne. It's around a 2000km trip, which considering we have the van for 3 weeks isn't a massive amount, 2-3 hours of driving a day probably. I'm kind of hoping we get to Melbourne early so we can go to Phillip Island, which is where that programme on BBC1 about the Penguins is filmed. If you havn't seen it, Phillip Island is home to the worlds smallest penguins, Fairy Penguins. Every night at dusk they come out of the sea and walk a mile or so inland, and you can go watch hundreds of them come to shore.
We also went to Sydney Aquarium yesterday, which for the entry fee (around 12 quid) is absolutely amazing. They have loads of different exhibits featuring the different landscapes around Australia and the animals you can find there. The highlights had to be the Platypus they have and the pair of dugongs (look like smaller versions of a manatee). The final viewing tank (featured pic) is amazing, the tank is huge and the piece of glass is a full wall so it looks like you're just looking into the sea. It was quite educational as well, compared to 100 years ago, there are only 10% of the number of sharks in the sea, and practically every species is endangered, quite sad really.
Apart from that, it's been quite a quiet week really. A lot of people moved into another hostel on Sunday/Monday so it's been a case of making new friends, which is kinda tough when half the people are French/German and have groups going on, or are long termers, but we've got good friends with the long termers who are an awesome bunch. Picked up a few things to do and places to see for when we start going up the East Coast too, as a lot of people have chosen Sydney as their final destination rather than the start.
What else. Oh we went out last night to a bar called The World Bar. It was kareoke night, so 5 of us from the hostel got up and sang Hey Jude, we got a prize of free internet in Sydney for as long as we want it which is pretty awesome. We'll have to keep hold of it for when we get back.
Thats about it I think, everyone who moved out at the weekend is coming back to our hostel tonight as it's our last night in Sydney for 3 weeks which will be fun. One of Victorias friends from Uni is living in Melbourne at the moment so we're going to meet up with her. We're still undecided on whether we're staying in Melbourne and getting a job for a while and coming back to Sydney for Xmas, or whether we'll come straight back to Sydney and get a job here. Just see what Melbourne is like I guess.
Thats it for this entry, though I'm about to type up something about the hostel which we've stayed at for the last 11 or so days, which should be interesting viewing.
