hello there, Now in Vietnam. Arrived yesterday lunch time, having flewn via Singapore (beautiful airport). Dad has told me to update my journal by putting a bit about each place!! Demanding! Only joking Dad. Its midnight here as we are now 7 hours ahead but not tired and i have a dodgy tummy pain in between my ribs so not up for sleeping just yet! Plus the internet at this hotel is free so its a bonus. Only thing is the USB isn't working so still no photos!! Can't remember where i got to last time! Think i was writing about Panna in India.
Panna - So, after the chilli event!! what an idiot to eat a chilli...it was too dark to see though! We headed back to our bungalows by torch light and it felt really eery. Then jon and i saw a wild cat which really freaked me out. Can't remember if i told you, but there was a lizard in our room and noone would catch it...even the boys were scared by it! When we went out it was above my bed (typical) and when we got back i could no longer see it. Slept right under the covers all night just incase it ran across my face!! We had to leave at 7am the following morning. Group decision but i decided to go with the flow as the german guy scared me! Anyway, knowing me and my shower regime, i think i was up about 6-6.30. Was having a nice warm shower when the electricity cut out! just some of the things common in the daily regime on Indian life!
Chitrakut - A holy place!
Three and a half hour journey and as usual the roads were the pits! I was sat in the front and you really do see it all! Squashed dogs are a common one and there had been an awful crash between a jeep and a car on a big bend. Can see how it happened as the trucks just drive in the middle and do not budge for anything. Anyway, we arrived and i had a migrain coming on so slept on the grubby sheets right over lunch time. In the afternoon the rest of the group were going on a 5km walk around the holy shrines. Was not up for it in the heat but dragged myself out anyway. People drag themselves around this place lying down every inch of the distance. they measure the way using a cocunut and they do this to prove that something they prayed for has come true. Was quite disturbing to see really as just looked like such a punishment. In the evening we took a boat ride on the Ganges to see the evening prayer rituals. They float candles in the water and make a lot of noise! Chitrakut is famous as it is the point where the Ganges and some other river meet! Considering it is so holy (to the point that we couldnt have half the things on the menu) it didnt have a holy or spiritual feel to it.
