Allahabad - last journey here in the comfort of the cars today. Left at 9am and journey was about 4 hours. The average km's per hour is next to nothing! Arrived at the Milan Palace Hotel! - was as lovely as it sounds yet an absolute contrast to the street in which it stands on! We took rickshaws to the Nehru Museum and instantly became famous. We had a mass following of Indian People and one guy pointed a camera in my face telling me he was from a newspaper...my arse! I had to get quite cross with him in the end. It was alishas birthday (an aussi girl from the tour) and we went to a restaurant...but we were the only people in it, never a good sign. There were so many staff working that it was actually a joke! All meals came individually and with mistakes! The funniest thing was when Pat (girl from our tour) chased up her juice and was told it was just 'getting ready'. Us at that end of the table absolutely wet ourselves! After the meal, we were all pretty lively so went to a very plush cocktail bar! had a few cheeky drinks which were very welcomed by all!
Allahabad to Varanasi - Up at 6am to leave hotel at 7.30am. Took tuk tuks to bus station and hopped on a local bus, 4 hour journey. I hated it, although we had the bus almost to ourselves it was pitch black...the windowns were kind of boarded up! and the front was a cabin so couldnt even see through the windscreen. There was an accident on the way which delayed us a bit. All got off the bus for a little while before the traffic started moving again. When we arrived in Varanasi there was a big curfuffle to get the right number of tuk tuks for all of us and our luggage. I was in one alone until the last minute which was scary. Again. our hotel stood out as being the plushest and lushest building around. It had a beautiful roof top garden. Varanasi had a great market area and Sara and I were loving the shopping! Had a pair of trousers made to measure! Set me back about 3.50 pounds. In the fabric place where we were all sat, i was asked to be model (thats a couple of times now). Sari time was the funniest though. Went down to the river in the evening to see prayers. Same old really but quite an atmosphere. Then found a really cheap but great food place. I had a middle eastern Thali which was one of my best meals so far. Second day in Varanasi we were up a 5am to take a boat trip to see the sunrise over the river. Avoiding the fact i almost fell asleep, it was pretty amazing. After this we had breakfast and mine cost under a pound! Whilst here i had my palm read. it came up with some amazing things. I have taken it with a pinch of salt but some parts very spot on!
Last day of tour was a chill out in varanasi before getting the overnight train back to Delhi. The train journey was meant to be 12 hours but it ended up being 16 hours. I needed a wee really early on after consuming most of my drinks and snacks straight away!! I refused to go despite it being a western toilet as it was disgusting! Went to sleep but in the morning i had to give in!!! the whole journey was an experience, but one i would not repeat in a hurry! Initially people were in our seats so we had to quickly get off the train and back on a different carriage. When we arrived in Delhi our drivers were nowhere to be seen and we waited an hour by which time our day rooms at the hotel would not longer be available. When we got to hotel thay fixed up 2 rooms for us. I had a shower before our good bye lunch.
Right, its now 1.15am!!! Have had lovely chat to my family on msn messenger. Just a few more days to catch up on here. Love to everybody... hope you're surviving the storms. xxxx
