My welcome to the area wasn't great. The Litochoro 'bus stop' is in fact the slip lane to the Litochoro exit from the Freeway! So I then had to wander up the exit and then along more roads for 3km until I finally reached my hotel. This was all in 30 degrees heat with all my bags. Not so fun!
My time in the area was fairly relaxed. I took some walks down along the beachside and also visited the ancient site of Dion. Dion was another base for Greek mythological worship. It is situated on the base of Mount Olympus and was a place where many people came to worship and make sacrifices. Alexander the Great himself came to make a great sacrifice to the gods before commencing his invasion of Asia!! The museum was really good for seeing some of the more intact pieces from the site and to also learn some history. The site itself is alright but there is not as much to see compared to Delphi, but it is still really nice to walk around.
Whilst my hotel may not have had the greatest facilities, it did have amazing service! The food at the restaurant was absolutely amazing, the breakfast was probably enough for at least 3 people and the owner was kind enough to take me to Dion and to the Litochoro train station himself so that I didn't have to pay for a taxi!!
