So this is a pain: Taking the train from Singapore to KL costs about 40 dollars when you buy the ticket in Singapore. And it costs 40 ringgit when you go from Johor Bahru, just across the border in Malaysia. Apparently this is how they used to convert money, and never bothered to change the system... buying the ticket in Malaysia is about 3 times cheaper.
Sooo I took the bus over to JB! Bus ride uneventful, did have some fun at customs though...
We had to pile off the bus at the beginning of the bridge and line up to get stamped out of Singapore. Millions of people, and there was a sign hanging just after the desks that said NO WAITING. I wish.
That took about an hour, and then somehow I didn't manage to get back on the bus so had to walk across the bridge, along with many others, with my bag on my back and traffic rushing past. It was only about a km long though so didn't take long.
Arrival in Malaysia! I gave the customs guy my Swiss passport, and he didn't find the Singapore exit stamp in so I quickly slipped in the French one.. he was so shocked that I had 2 passports he had to call his neighbor over and they pored over my passports for like 15 minutes. I was terrified they were going to confiscate one or both or deport me or somehow find drugs in my bag or all of the above.
But no, they gave me back both of them, and now the next step was avoiding the hordes of taxi drivers and locating the train station. Bought my ticket to KL and went to have a look around in a shopping mall that looked like it had been stolen from Singapore, because it didn't fit in with the dirty grey buildings around it.
