Greetings from Thailand!!
Well I'm surpised we made it here with minimum hassle but we did! The flight was very long and very boring with the lack of entertainment but the food was good and they constantly plied everyone with drink so it wasn't so bad. We arrived in Bangkok at 6am to humid, rainy weather. The queue to get through immigration wasn't too bad but you can imagine how unimpressed I was when I realised Lawrence was allowed to stay until the end of November whereas my visa ran out a month earlier!! However we sorted it out so they're the same, but it was quite difficult trying to talk to people who were wearing facemasks out of fear that we'd disease them!
Once we arrived at the hostel we had a little sleep and when we woke up it was nice and sunny which always makes everything seem nicer. Considering the hostel is so cheap it is very clean and the staff are very nice. We then took a little walk down Khao San Road where a nice tuk tuk driver (who actually didn't rip us off but did laugh at our names quite alot!) advised us to go to the Tourist Authority ofThailand place for advice about what to do next. We were convinced he was leading us to some back alley to scam us but he actually stuck to his word. They were pretty helpful and we've booked the next couple of weeks of things with them starting with going to Koh Chang tomorrow for our first beach visit. After that it began to absolutely pour down so we got a tuk tuk back to the hostel to hide from the rain. It didn't last for too long so we went out for dinner which was amazingly cheap at about 1.50 each including drinks. We then just went for a couple of drinks and had a pretty quiet evening
Yesterday we managed to sleep until about midday having been up for half the night unable to sleep so annoyed at wasting half a day just went for brunch, picked up the tickets for our next trips and then had a wander around the market. In the evening we went to the night market which was very entertaining and absolutely masive but aftre a while of seeing the same things over and over again it began to get a bit old. Although we both managed to make a fair few purchses spending only 500 baht.
Today we went to the Grand Palace. We started off in Wat Phra Keao which had a temple with the BIGGEST buddah in. After wandering around there for a little bit we started making our way to theGrand Palace which was across the road and were stopped every five seconds by people trying toget us to go to other places by saying that the palace was closed for lunch. Luckily I had my cynical head on and didn't believe them (although Lawrence did!!) cos it really wasn't even slightly shut. We had a tour guide man on the way round and boy could he talk but he was very entertaining. The palace was absolutely beautiful...I quite fancy having a house like that!!
Anyway, tomorrow we're getting a 6 hour bus at 7:30 followed by a ferry to Koh Chang so I should go and pack up my things ready for that. I get the feeling my bag is never going to get as organised as it was for the way here until I'm home again!!
