After breakfast this morning, I spent a few hours finishing and sending off a job application - it's quite difficult to do in a short time frame and I think I could have done it better, but we'll see what happens!
At 1pm we were picked up in a minivan and taken to the bus station for our bus to Hue, which will be followed by the sleeper bus to Hanoi. It's a longer journey than the last sleeper bus but we're hoping it will be more comfortable this time (working air con please!) as we've paid a bit more money than last time. The bus to Hue took about 3 hours and halfway through, the bus stopped at what looked like a big restaurant, and the driver held up a sign that said '20 minute stop for sightseeing'...although he held it upside down and someone at the front had to turn it around for him! The rest stop was unlike any we've ever been to. It looked like a massive, quite posh restaurant - big enough to hold functions, set in some beautiful countryside. We wondered if it was a hotel but it didn't seem to be. Next to the restaurant there was a massive upmarket gift shop. We ordered some sandwiches to take away, and then it was back on the bus!
When we arrived in Hue someone met us and showed us where to wait for the sleeping bus which arrived after about 20 minutes. The bus was a lot ncie than the last one - more modern, good aircon, and nicer looking blankets! We stopped for dinner a few hours into the journey at a cafe called DMZ cafe, which stands for Demilitarized Zone, which is where it is - the strip of land in between the old North and South Vietnam. We enjoyed some cheap local food and got to watch some of the live Newcastle match on one of the local TV channels, before getting back on the bus. Time to read for a little while until they switched the lights off - guess it's bedtime then!
