Nothing to get up early for in Pakse today so we enjoyed a bit of a lie-in and then went for breakfast at Delta Coffee, which we've kind of adopted as our cafe of choice since we've been here! The coffee is really good and before leaving we bought some to take home as presents for a bargain price.
Today we were planning on visiting Wat Phu Champasak, one of the largest and most famous temples in Laos, but the heat was so overpowering on our walk to the coffee shop that we decided it was better to give it a miss and save our temple viewing for Angkor Wat in Cambodia in a few weeks' time!
Instead, we went back to the hotel and did some research online about our next stop, Si Phan Don (otherwise known as the 4000 Islands) at the southern tip of Laos. Our research included a trip over the road to our other favourite coffee shop to use their internet and enjoy a couple of banana shakes! We booked our bus/boat ticket at a restaurant across the street; we leave tomorrow at 8am and it only cost 55,000 kip (about 4.50) each - bargain!
In the evening, we went to a restaurant called Pizza Boy that we'd read about in the LP. Unfortunately, it was probably the worst meal we've had during our stay in Pakse! My pizza was OK but nothing special and Laura had a very ordinary 'pasta Thai style' - ah well, we have had lots of good food here too! Time to get packed for our journey south tomorrow...
