This morning, we headed back to Delta Coffee for a baguette and coffee breakfast before heading out in search of a travel agent who could book us on a day trip to the Bolaven Plateau tomorrow. We want to see the tea and coffee plantations where the fantastic coffee we've been drinking later comes from! We tried a few places all over town; some were too expensive and others said that they needed a minimum of four people before they would run the tour so we should put our names down and check back later. We also tried the Tourist Information office but it was closed on Sundays, which we should have realised! Eventually, we found a company who were charging a good price and the agent spoke good English and so could explain what we would see - deal!
Next, we went to do something I never thought we'd be able to do in Laos - ten pin bowling! We caught a tuk tuk to Friendship Bowling on the edge of town and paid 18,000 kip (£1.50) for a game. The place was empty when we arrived but we must have started a trend as it started to fill up after a while. Our only problem was that the bowling shoes only went up to a size 10 so they were a bit of a squeeze for my big feet! We played a couple of games (which I won!) and cooled off after our morning trek around town. Who'd have thought that the one place we'd go bowling on the trip would be Pakse in Laos?
Afterwards, we walked back into town and found another good coffee shop with free wifi where I had iced tea and Laura had a banana shake - mmm! After a fried rice lunch, we went back to the hotel for a few hours before our evening meal in what is probably the best restaurant in town - Le Panorama on the roof of the Pakse Hotel ( the place we were dropped off at by our tuk tuk driver yesterday but couldn't afford to stay at!) The service was excellent and so was the food - some of the best we've had for a while! I had steak with pepper sauce and mash - delicious, although not very Laos! Laura had chicken stuffed with crab in a carrot and ginger sauce - posh! We were sitting at the next table to an American family that we'd first met in Kong Lo so we chatted to the mother of the family for a while about our travel plans. She's travelling with her four kids on her own - brave lady!
Feeling very full, we headed back to our room and put on the film channel - I watched Red while Laura typed up some of the blog. Looking forward to our trip around the area tomorrow…
