The first thing we did when we woke up was look out of the window and see the Ocean! Hermosa Beach is such a lovely place, everyone is happy and smiling, noone has a care in the world! The boardwalk is lined with multi million dollar properties which look amazing and there are loads of people riding bikes, skateboarding, rollerskating..all in the sunshine! We couldn't wait to get to the beach so we headed straight there after having some breakfast (free of course!).
After a few hours sunbathing we packed up and headed to the grocery store to get supplies. We wish we could eat out every day but unfortunately our budget doesn't stretch that far! We've settled into a pattern of eating out (modestly) on the first night in a new place, and then cooking our own grub after that. After napping (I'm getting used to a mid-afternoon sleep!), showering and cooking tea we sat in the TV room getting to know the other guests. As it was Saturday night quite a few people were heading out to the local bars so we joined them.
We queued for a while outside one of the more popular bars but soon got fed up as we weren't moving anywhere and the bouncers kept taking groups of girls from the back of the queue and letting them in - a common occurence in LA! If the bars have a lot of pretty girls then the rich men are more likely to go in and spend a lot of money. Us travellers don't get much of a look in, unless you are in a group of girls. Anyway, we ended up going to another bar called 'Sangrias' and started drinking...sangria! We stayed there til closing time at 2am, which is quite strange as we're used to places being open much later in Boro! We got talking to a very friendly bouncer who liked my accent and we chatted to him for a while before going back to the hostel TV room for a while and then heading to bed about 3am. By that time is was quiet outside so we had no trouble getting to sleep!
