Laura's Travels
Okay so i've been mega busy since my last journal entry and that's probably why it's been so long since I entered one (go figure!). Arrived in Hong Kong last Sunday - was very excited when on the way home from the train station to the hotel we passed daddys office! Spent our first night in Hong Kong with the tour group as it was to be the last time we would all be together ... 1,2,3 awww. Fab night out at ' Murphys' (Irish pub) but so sad to say goodbye to everyone. The next day we checked out of our gorgeous hotel and entered the nightmare which was the 'Oriental Pearl hostel' - the most vile place in the history of vile places. The girls and I squished into the smallest room ever - no light, no air, hard beds - hmmm nice I hear you all say! Well it definitely was not. We decided to brave it for the night but needless to say we moved hostels the next day. So Hong Kong - absolutely loved it despite the neverending downpour of rain. Even though the weather wasn't great we still had a ball - we shopped; saw the de vinci code at the cinema (sucha fan!) and ventured out at night to a couple of trendy bars in the Lan Kwai Fong area (recommended by my very trendy father ... when did that happen?! he he love you daddy!) Okay so we left Hong Kong and flew down to Hanoi, Vietnam.
So Hanoi .. could possibly be the noisiest place on earth! Lots of vietnamese people zooming around on mopeds hooting their horns at every opportunity - oh my gosh utter madness! Crossing the road proved an adventure in itself, quite scary at times actually but all is okay as i'm still here to tell the tale. Lots of things to do and see in Hanoi including a visit to Ho Chi Minhs tomb, the water puppet show and the temple of literatue. Okay so we had only spent like 1 day in Hanoi and already we felt like we needed to escape the hustle and bustle of it all, so we headed out to Halong Bay - absolutely stunning! We spent 2 days and 1 night on a boat wth gorgeous weather (something we hadn't experienced in quite a while so we were loving it!) Explored some limestone caves and had a swim in the lagoon - yum. The following day Lauren and I thought it would be fun to go kayaking for a couple of hours with the rest of the group, we couldn't have been more wrong - never again! Oh my gosh we were so scared we'd drift out to sea with the current - Lauren had a mild panic attack while I tried to keep her clam hmm I guess that's what best friends are for. In the end all was okay - we returned to our big boat - safe and sound, just a little tired and achey. After a relaxing few days in Halong Bay we flew from Hanoi to Danang and then hopped in a taxi to Hoi An which is where we are now. Phew I think we're all up to date now! So first impression of Hoi An - really lovely. Quite a cute little town - lots of shops and restaurants. Looking forward to having a proper look around.
Best be off now - Much love x x x x x
