Caught the Megabus to New York. Took about 5 hours. Seeing the skyline in the distance was really cool and we started getting uber excited :)
On the subway to the hostel some local guy was telling us how dangerous the Upper West Side was and how to truse no one. What a great welcome to New York.
Had to wait a few hours to check in so we signed up for the evening tour run by the hostel to Staten Island that evening.
Our guide was Don, a born and bred New Yorker. He took us through Wall Street before arriving at the ferry. Seeing the Statue of Liberty at sunset was really nice. Then we saw the Twin Towers memorial on Staten Island. Amazing bit of Architecture with the profiles of the Staten Island residents engraved on it. The memorial was constructed so it looks across the water to the Ground Zero sight.
Catching the ferry back to Manhattan and seeing it at night all lit up was really beautiful. Could see the Brooklyn Bridge and it definately looked like a postcard pic.
Next we set off for Times Square. So much hustle and bustle late at night. Loads of billbords all advertising Broadway shows etc. Lots of people were sat on deck chairs in the middle of it all watching everyone rush by. There was so much to see and do.
Didnt get back to the hostel until late. Managed to tick some things off our list already which was awesome for a first day :)
