The train got in to Bangkok train station about 8.45. We immediately took our bags to the TAT (Tourism Authority Thailand) where we booked our train tickets and trips etc. They said we could leave our bags there during the day before our next overnight train. We wanted to go to MBK Mall having not being able to get there the previous week, we found a tuk tuk that would take us for a reasonable price. A previous tuk tuk driver told us that the mall was closed today for a Buddhist holiday, we've been told such much crap now from people trying to scam us that we knew it would just be a lie and told him to get lost. When we got to the mall it didn't actually open until 10am Di we went to a cafe that was at an entrance to the mall and got a drink and a panini and used the internet. When the mall opened at 10, we realised just how huge it was, there is 8 floors for shops and stalls, a cinema, a bowling alley, a karaoke place and loads of restaurants. We had a look round a few of the shops and decide to see how expensive the cinema was to kill some time. The cinema was so cheap, it cost us about £3 to go watch the new Spiderman movie, which was good but we don't know why they've remade a film that's only about 7 years old... After the cinema we went to get some food and went to a restaurant/grill, with every main meal you got a free unlimited salad bar included and the soft drinks were unlimited too. The salad bar was easily the best I have ever seen and eaten at! They had so much to choose from and included pasta, soups, fruit, loads of salads and veg, loads of dressings. I could have just eaten salad bar, we both ordered BBQ chicken but it wasn't that great so I ate my jacket potato and left the rest and went back for more salad bar!! After food we decided to see if we could find a reasonably priced massage. We found a hairdressers/beauty salon which was huge and really busy offering half price on massages so we both got an hour reflexology massage and a half hour back neck and shoulder massage for 400baht each £8. It was so good! By the time we came out we had a bit of a look around some shops, I bought a skirt for about £3 and we went to subway and both got a footlong sandwich to take on the train so we didn't have to eat the disgusting food they served on the train!! We got a taxi back to the train station and went to pick up our bags from the tourism office and went to wait in the train station. Our train was to Surat Thani but we couldn't see it on the board, we still had 30 mins or so waited to see if it came up, someone had told Adam platform 5 but then someone else said platform 10 so we thought we'd wait for it to come up. Adam went to the supermarket type place in the train station and got a few bits and whilst he was in there a guard came out an blew his whistle and everyone stood up and a song played and people were singing and praying to a huge picture of the king on the wall. Absolutely everyone stood up except 3 monks who just ignored what was going on, I think all the tourists stood up because they didn't know what else to do... When Adam came back he hadn't heard any of it in the supermarket!! We decided to go find out about our train at the information desk and it turns out that the reason we couldn't find our train is because it wasn't the last stop on the train route so we got on the correct train and then wondered at 6.30am how we were going to know which was our station but the guy working out carriage said that he would notify people which station we were at when he knew people were due to get off. Our bunks on the train were in the last carriage at the very end of the carriage, it was probably the bumpiest thing we've ever been on, I'm pretty sure throughout the course of the night we left the track a few times, it was ridiculous! Anyway Adam had bought some beers, Pringles and nuts from the supermarket so we didn't need to buy anything from the overpriced train salesman! As it turned out, Adam thought he had bought salt and vinegar pringles but he'd actually bought BBQ fake Pringles lol. They still tasted good! We played a few games of cards and then decided to try and get some bumpy sleep!
