So we caught an overnight train from Airlie beach to Cairns, it was our last bus ride in Australia wohoo! But it was also our worse, it was absolute hell the bus was packed so you couldn't lie down and stretch out and the driver seemed to think that just because he was awake so should we. For example he used his microphone to announce every stop and demanded that we took the opportunity to stretch our legs even though it was 3 o'clock in the morning!
We arrived in Carins waited for our Hostel bus to pick us up and headed to our hostel which was really lovely. We had to wait until 10 o'clock for our room to become available, once it was Kate immediately went to sleep and Laura went our to the shopping centre to, get our photos from the Whitsundays developed and to buy a new camera. she proceeded to spend the rest of the day playing with her new toy.
We spent the first basically wandering around Cairns, sunbathing next to the lagoon (which is a public paddling pool because Cairns doesn't have a beach).
The next day we were up early and caught a ferry to an island called Fritzroy spent the day sun bathing on the coral beaches (Kate slept for most of the day) and snorkelling around the coral surrounding the island. We saw another sea turtle really close to us this time and also some gigantic fish. Laura had great fun swimming through a school of fish that must of contained about a thousand fish, it reminded her of chasing pigeons along the street. We also went and had a wander around the island and went though its rainforest where we got chased by bats (something Laura hated), and saw these flightless birds digging about in the dirt, before catching the ferry back to the mainland.
That evening was our last in Australia so you can imagine we had a good night out, yes thats right Laura dragged Kate to see the new Harry Potter film (after giving her a drink to steel her nerves).
Next morning we caught a taxis to the airport, had a bit of confusion with our flight number because it had changed and flew to Auckland.
