LA was spread out (you couldn't walk anywhere) scruffy and full of dirty/crazy tramps (that seem to like talking to Laura). But we had fun.
Our first hurdle was getting from the airport to the hostel as neither of us had the address on us! We knew it was in Hollywood and we caught a cab with a really nice cab driver who charged us a lot less than the fare and found the Hostel purely by fluke.
Our hostel was just off Hollywood Blvd so we were in within walking distance of all the handprints out side the Chinese theatre and we even saw some filming along Hollywood Blvd, but we saw no stars. Although Kate did find her name "Kate Smith" on the Hollywood WALK OF FAME as we all know Kate is a star (apart from early morning)!
We did all the touristy stuff went to Universal Studios, saw a bit of the filming for the new Indian Jones film. Saw Wisteria Lane from Desperate Houswives etc. Ate in the Hard Rock Cafe it was was great.
We spent our first night drinking in the hostel bar watching the comedy night. Our second night we took a stretch limosine (With free champagne) through Bel Air looked at all the posh shops, we used the toilet in a parking lot (it was like using the toilet in Harrods). The cars in that parking lot slept in better conditions than we did in the hostel especially as Laura slept in a cupboard! It also took us to some nice spots in West Hollywood not sure where the free champers make things a bit blurry. So much for no drinking under 21!
We took a walking tour to the Hollywood sign (or atleast as close as we could get before we'd get arrested) but we don't recommend walking up the hills full of fake chateuxs and English Mansions in the heat of the day as we did.
We spent an afternoon checking our Venice Beach and walking to Santa Monica along the paved footpath along the beach watching all the people travelling on weird modes of transport. We saw a man on a penny farthing, a woman pushing her dog in a buggy (surely dogs are supposed to walk), Bikes, tricycles, people windsurfing on rollerblades, you name it we saw it, great entertainment. We walked backed to Venice after playing about in Muscle Beach for a while. The sun was setting so we saw a beautiful sunset but as the sun set the freaks came out! Laura got told by a man if she had a back pain (which she did but denied it to the guy) because her aura around her lower back was looking a bit grey but apart from that she would lead a happy healthy life!
Our last morning we went down into Downtown LA saw some buildings a few markets including a mexican market and then rushed back to the hostel to get to our shuttle bus to take us to San Fransico.
