22nd September
Breakfast at 4:30am but no coffee in bed this time! Although the first bus was at 5:30 and we were there before, we still had to cue until 6 for a bus to take us to Machu Picchu. Although I'd been to the museum in Cusco and knew it was a large city, I was still blown away by the size of it. At first it was quite fogy but this meant it was cool for our 2hour guide by Sergio. Then the sun came out and the site was FILLED with people so spent a lot of time just getting through and waiting for people. We climbed to the top and Lara, Nicole and I had brought Serena a cake and candles for her birthday so started singing as she posed for a photo. Soon after we bumped into the rest of our group who'd been on the inca trail - they all survived also but a few of them looked a bit worse for wear!
We took till 12 exploring the whole site, walking to the inca bridge and finding a shady spot to sit and enjoy the view.
After lunch back in Aguas Callientes we took the train back to Ollayantambo then said goodbye to our Lares group and went back to Cusco by bus. We went for chicken and chips for 15sol for dinner then to a few bars to complete our 24hour challenge!
