Hello!!!
We have been a little sleep deprived lately due to the late night entertainment as provided by a couple in our dorm. Unfortunatley they were unable to supress their urges and decided to have sex in the bunk underneath Laura's bed. Twice (and one handjob). This was a little awkward as we are friends with the couple and had to endure their really loud dirty talk. Another girl in the room made a complaint and the sex couple (as they have become known) think that it was us so things have become a little strained between us. But we dont mind because they are chavs anyway! We also found out that night that another guy had been running around the hostel naked so god knows what they had put in the water but the hostel had turned randy!
Anyway the main event of our week has been a tour of the great ocean road. We were really looking forward to this and booked through a Wild wombat escapes who had been recommended to us by one of our friends in the hostel because you go out in a small group rather than with a coach load of people. We got picked up a 7am (an ungodly hour we have not seen for a good few weeks) by Chris, who we wont exactly describe as a people person. We started off spotting some kangaroos in a field on our way to Bells beach (major surf beach where they are having a big international competiton in a few weeks). They were big old beasts and looked funny when they hopped around. After the beach we went to Split point lighthouse, which was the lighthouse featured in 'Round the twist' Claire was very excited about this! Whilst we were at the lighthouse Claire tried to take a close up photo of a bug and then screamed and ran away when not suprisingly the bug was a bit pissed off at having a camera shoved in its face and decided to fly off. After this we went to visit some koalas (it was at a caravan park!). They were so cute and you really wanted to give one a cuddle until you noticed the viscious looking claws attached to each paw. After taking many pictures we grabbed an ice cream and went on our merry way. We drove for ages along the road (stopping once along the way for a glimpse of a lethal tiger snake) taking in the view of the countryside and sea which was really lovely as it was a gorgeous sunny day and there was some damn fine music on the stereo (we didnt actually know what any of it was though!). We eventually got to Otway national park which was an ancient forest where we went for a little walk admiring the bloody massive eucalyptus trees whilst constantly getting in the way of a lesbian german couples video recording of each other walking. After luch we headed for the 12 apostles. Unfortunately half way up a hill smoke started to pour from the back wheel of the bus. We all piled out and Chris (the guide) started to get pissed off with us having a go at him, when no one had actually said a word. Thankfully we managed to hitch a lift with various campervans up to the top of the hill to a petrol station, where we remained for 2 hours. We didnt have a clue what was going on because Chris wouldnt tell us anything and just kept telling us he couldnt deal with people asking him questions and then walking off on his phone.
One by one different tour buses arrived at the petrol station and our group got split up (we went with lesbian couple and we are pretty sure they thought we were also an item) and got onto another tour bus to finally get to visit the 12 apostles. As erosion goes, these rocks were pretty impressive but the whole place was a really big tourist attraction (2nd most photographed Aussie icon after the opera house) and we had to fight our way through the hoards of snap happy (although when arent they?) Asians to get a photograph. After these we visited the Loch Ard gorge, again pretty cool, and Londons bridge - well where the bridge used to be because the bridge had infact fallen down, oh the irony. We then piled back into the bus and started the 3 hour journey back to Melbourne. When we got off the bus we asked the german girls when they thought we were going to have to pay. When we said this their faces fell and said that they had all paid earlier in the tour when we were in the toilets - god bless our weak bladders. When we got to the hostel we told reception that if someone came looking for us to tell them we have already checked out. Rasheed (reception guy) said he would tell Chris that if he managed to track us down could he give the hostel our address because we'd also done a runner from there too. So all in all we were quite chuffed to have saved $90 woo hoo :-)
In other news we have made some friends with people our own age, yey!!!! We went to a thai food and culture festival which was really cool because it smelt just like the food markets in Thailand although we were very dissappointed that no one was making any banana fritters. We also got to watch some thai dancing and boxing which we hadnt gone to see whilst we were actually in Thailand.
Our friend joey who we met in thailand has now also arrived so we are now a merry little group with us and two germans, Caroline and Sandra (we are going to be coming home with German accents) and Rasheed usually entertains us in the evenings. We had a lovely day chilling out (no change there) on the beach yesterday although Laura managed to sun burn her arse and now looks and feels like a fool, although this does make a change from it being Claire whos the lobster.
We are now planning our few days in Sydney and then a few days in the blue mountains before heading up the coast to byron bay and eventually Brisbane, which will become our new home for a few weeks. We will be in touch when we get the time but because we will be rather busy next week we are not sure when this will be.
Hope none of you are freezing to death in the snow (mwah ha ha haaaaa) take care xxx
