Hello!!!
Given the importance of our recent activity we (well Laura actually) has decided that Neighbours deserves its very own blog post. It was all a little bit surreal and every bit as cheesy as I hoped it would be
It started in the Neighbours tour office with 20 other sweaty British tourists (unsuprisingly there wasnt a single Aussie on the tour) waiting for our mystery 'star' to arrive. It turned out to be Janelle (whos not actually in the show anymore!) and we all just stoodin a circle around her gawping at the poor woman holding are cameras whispering to each other and giggling little school kids. Eventually we over came being 'star' (cough cough) struck and took it in turns having our photos taken and got an autograph signed. Shes lost loads of weight since leaving the show and she now has brown hair and looks significantly less 'bogan' like.
After this encounter we all piled in a minibus plastered with the Neighbours logo and settled down to watch a DVD of retro Neighbours episodes on our way to the school. The school is actually an Engligh language school which is used for dog training at the weekend. They had the school sign used in the show in the bus so we propped that outside the school gates and had some cheesy pics taken. Then we went to the studios which you cant actually go in but we found out the enterance to the studios was where they filmed Skye being released from prision.
After this is was time for the highlight of the tour and a visit to the street itself. It was a bit weird because it was tiny and is actually just the five houses they use in the show all next to each other in a little cul-de-sac. The studio pay for a security guard to man the street 24hrs a day and they actually close the street off at 8pm every night because people kept burning out cars on the street to see if they would make an appearance on the show . It was all really funny and I'm glad we did it but it was all a bit weird!!!!
In other news I have given up the job hunting after realising we are actually only in Melbourne for another two weeks (we keep thinking we are here for ages) so I'm going to have to seek full time employment in Brisbane instead. Today we are off to a rooftop market and then one of the staff at the hostel has told us the backstreet boys gig thats on in melbourne tonight might be played for free in federation square (the hub of all that is cool in the city) so we are going to investigate that for a laugh and for a bit of cheese to counteract the culture we will be getting from the opera tomorrow!!!!!
Lots of love to you all xxx
