After we'd all woken up and had breakfast, we went for a walk to the beach, except for Jamie's son Matcha, who should have been at school, but was sick today (Jamie is a masseuse and normally has Monday's off anyway, and Mick is a real estate appraiser so can be quite flexible). They pointed out what they called sand dollars- little round white shells which have a pattern which looks a bit like a flower on. We bumped into one of their friends who had a dog with a wheelchair (his back legs were stuck in the chair, leaving his front legs to run himself around- he was impressively fast at running around with it).
We headed into town, and got a beer and some snack food at the pub- me and Alice had the raspberry beer, as the guy had brought us some samples, and obviously this was the one we liked best. We had cheesy chips and a hummus plate, and I thin I was more excited about the hummus plate! A guy overheard me talking about chichi (the Peruvian corn drink) and turned around and said how foul it was but how much he liked Pisco sours, which got Mick and Jamie curious to try it. We also got chatting to some Americans who wanted us to teach them English words like dodgy. Jamie showed me and Alice the yarn shop as I had commented on her textiles she has up around her house, and she had said that this shop used to sell crewel kits, which are a bit like cross stitch, but they no longer sold them. The chocolate they also sold looked good though.
When we got back to the house, Jamie stayed there to look after MAtcha, and Mick took us for a drive to their community garden they're a part of (they do 3 hours or more gardening work and then can take as much vegetables and fruit from it as they want) so we could see it, and potentially spot some elk which live on the field nearby, but unfortunately the elk weren't out.
Next he took us to a look out, and then stopped a few metres further down the road, where we walked to the cliff edge and sat there for a while, where we learned that Mick and Jamie had only met in October and got engaged in December! When we returned to the car, Mick took us to Cannon Beach and brought some Pisco from the liquor store, and then because he'd something about saltwater taffy, which Alice recognised as something Ross from friends eats, we went to several sweet shops, of which some were closed, but managed to find one still open and we all brought some pick 'n' mix taffy, and the others also brought some fudge. Taffy is like chew its, but they had all sorts of flavours, like banana peanut butter, and even chipotle chilli! They also had an impressive assortment of Jelly Belly beans. When we'd finished scoffing our faces, we drove back to the house, and then me, Alice and Andy went to the grocery store to pick up lemons end eggs for the Pisco sours, and some Mexican beer to celebrate cinco de mayo (Mexican Independence day), which we had with the leftovers from last night. We then spent the evening playing risk, although it was different to the version we play at home, as we were playing for world domination and there were different rules about how many armies you got at the beginning of your go. By 1 am, no-one really seemed to be a clear winner and we decided to call it quits and go to bed.
