We've had a really great relaxing time in the hostel and in all the parks within Christchurch, although we have managed to fit in a few things. On our first day in Christchurch the sad event of us leaving behind Norris occured, it was very sad after over a month with him, but we managed to console ourselves when we bought tickets to the rugby. Yes fit kiwi rugby players-wow!!! Finally managed to find a proper shopping centre, like the ones we are used to at home, it was called Northlands and we had a fun time wandering around and window shopping, hope you are proud!
We spent a lot of the weekend sitting in Victoria Square working on our tan and relaxing, the fountains in the Square were amazing. We also went punting on the River Avon which was so relaxing and we saw the hospital and the botanic gardens which were beautiful. It reminded us so much of England. Cathedral Square was really nice with the gorgeous church and a good market. There was also a giant chess set which people were playing with, which was pretty cool. We also went along to the Arts Centre on Saturday morning where they have all sorts of stalls selling New Zealand crafts such as the Jade stone, etc. They also had a fudge shop with free tasting!!!!
The highlight of our trip to Christchurch was on saturday night when we went to a super 14 rugby match. It was at the Jade Stadium between the Canterbury Crusaders and the Cape Town Stormers. We were in one of the end stands underneath the big screen and between the posts and in the FRONT ROW!!!!! We were very fortunate in the fact that our future husbands, who played for the Crusaders were warming up right in front of us!! All that stretching and jumping up and down was only a 100 yards away from us, and it all of a sudden got very hot!!!!! We would have got some amazing pictures had Lau had the foresight to bring her camera, so we had to contend with memory and Fi's dodgy camera phone. At the end of the game the Crusaders team threw balls into the crowd and walked round signing autographs and having their photos taken, can you imagine that happening at Old Trafford?!?!?!
We stayed at a fabulous hostel called Charlie B's which was really welcoming and had a great atmosphere. It is probably the nicest hostel so far as it was so spacious and clean and friendly, the garden even had a water fountain. Also all the people working there shared our enthusiasm for Grey's, which has got to be a good thing. So we were really sad to leave Charlie B's, Christchurch and New Zealand behind as we had the best time and have some amazing memories.
