Not much to report from the last couple of days. We set off from Te Anau towards Dunedin the most southern point we visit on the east coast. We ended up getting stuck behind two campervans on the journey, who were going unbelievably slowly, but we couldn't overtake for ages. The problem of NZ's one lane highways!! The hostel in Dunedin, Stafford Gables YHA, is one of our favourites here. On the hill, it's in a converted hospital so there are three ghosts and lots of little nooks and hidden rooms. Our room was in the attic and reminded us of Peter Pan with three beds and the big window - very fun! We explored Dunedin and really liked the central area, The Octagon, with all it's little cafes and one off shops. After trekking back up the hill we decided to cook, as we were all looking forward to our feast of salmon and sundried tomato risotto, beats pasta and sauce hands down. Whilst cooking we met a few people, one of them Chris has got to be the friendliest person we've met so far, he was from Norwich and had decided to emigrate to NZ - we were very jealous!! Spent the evening in the tv cellar room, which apparently used to be the morgue, sprawled on the sofas watching Men in Trees and a couple of Grey's Anatomy episodes.
Left Dunedin for Timaru, another boring drive before arriving at The Anchor Motel. We were amazed to see our 'room' as for less than 10 pounds each we had a bathroom, a kitchen, living room and 2 bedrooms plus a balcony - wow!! Sam and Lau wandered into Timaru, but had nothing interesting to report, just a weird post office woman!! Spent the evening lazing around as we were all knackered - think the driving has caught up with us! As Fi and Sam started to cook we realised that our oil was missing, this resulted in a mad mercy dash across town to find some. As well as oil they also returned with cake!! Don't know how that happened!!
Setting off to Christchurch tomorrow (Wednesday) where we will have to leave Norris (sob sob!). Will be good to have a few relaxing days before our flight to Sydney! Will update at the end of our Christchurch adventure.
Love and hugs xxxxxxx
