Ok so my new found tolerance for Guatemala City is officially over! I just went a minute up the road from my hotel buy some water and a teenage boy tried to rob me... he blocked me in the street and was demanding money from me. I said i didn't have any and he reached for the waist band of his trousers and lurched towards me kind of spitting words at me through his teeth... i think he said if you don't give me Q20 I'll stab you and he had a very scary look in his eyes... Q20 that's about 1 pound 50!!!!! so i reached for my purse but luckily i was gallantly saved by a parking attendant... I think the kid was bluffing as it didn't look like he had anything in his waistband but still... a bit shaken up i went to use the phone to try to call a friend when 3 people surrounded me and started grabbing at my pockets trying to get money off me. They hung the phone up on me and i ran back to the hotel! The family who run the hotel are so great... one of them saw what happened and they've been super nice and have made me feel somewhat better.
I went back to the docs again today as despite another dose of anti amoeba drugs my sickness got worse again... he said I've got very strong amoebas! So I've been given a third dose of amoeba medicine and antibiotics! I am feeling a bit better now so touch wood this lot will work. I had decided not to move on until I felt better because I found a doctor who I trusted and I couldn't face travelling with nausea. But even before this evening's events I was feeling like I'd had enough of it here. I decided that as I'm still feeling rough I couldn't face going to the coast where it's boiling hot... i also was feeling like some familiar company so I decided earlier to go to Copan in Honduras tomorrow and then to Tegucigalpa, the capital, to meet my friend Carmen. I went on msn and she was online so i told her and she said "fantastic I'm going to copan tomorrow for the weekend!" I'm really happy... I'm getting out of this crazy place and I'll have a lovely friend to keep me company!
So tomorrow I'll be saying goodbye the faulty towers hotel with menagerie of dogs, birds, cockroaches and rats... not to mention leaky bedrooms! I'll also be saying goodbye to Guatemala for this trip. It seems a shame to leave on a bum note but I have way more happy memories than bad ones... and I'm very excited to be going to Honduras and meeting up with Carmen.
Ok well I'll update more when I get to Copan. Another day another country. Life is good!
