With a fresh start in a new country, we ate a typical Vietnamese breakfast in a family style kitchen. Advised that Vietnam was the place to ride motorbikes, we couldn't wait any longer to join the madness on the streets. We rode up and down the beaches visiting The Marble Mountains and The Lady Buddha. Not so spoiled in this country, absolutely nothing was in English. It took a bit of trial and error as well as dodging hundreds of locals around many round-abouts to navigate back to our hotel.
Conquering Da Nang in a half day, it was time to move on to our focal point city, Hoi An. A major international trading port since the 15th century, this quaint river town is the Venice of Asia. We could feel the influences of Italy, France and China as we strolled the riverside streets lined with cafes and custom-made clothing shops while admiring the palm trees, lanterns and floating candles.
A beautiful young lady asked us if she could sit down with us while we ate dinner. Speaking impeccable English she introduced herself as Huong and told us of her aspirations to become a pharmacist and how much she likes Miley Cyrus. Her dad supportively hung out close by. After a long chat we learned that when she speaks with 100 foreigners, she will receive an iPhone. Good luck Huong!
We could not have picked a better city to plant our feet for a few days!
