Traveling to Cambodia transported us to a whole new world. Immediately we were introduced to the much anticipated Tuk Tuk. A Tuk Tuk is a passenger carriage of sorts attached to a motorcycle. The traffic here could not have been more different than in Kuala Lumpur. Family filled motorcycles, Tuk Tuks and the occasional Range Rover or Lexus packed the streets with absolutely no order. The lack of traffic laws left us terrified but excited.
Greeted with a fresh juice and hospitable smile, we were so happy with our quaint hotel One Up Banana.
With the intense heat, humidity and the fact that we were running on only 3 hours of sleep, we opted for a spa visit. The lemongrass incense, delicious Cambodian lunch, very sweet server and not to mention our spa pampering gave us the fuel we needed to keep going.
Back on foot with a map in hand, we wandered the streets to experience the indescribable city of Phnom Penh up close. Lining many streets are local restaurants which are only made up of a food wagon, miniature tables and plastic children stools. We rubbed shoulders with the natives while eating liver and a
few other unidentifiable street food items.
Can you guess where we went next? Yes, the market. At The Central Market we admired handwoven silk, ceramics and jewelry before a heavy rain started to pound and leak through the metal roof. Dancing in the rain along the way to the river, we happened upon a rooftop restaurant Le Sky. We savored locals beers and food with a backdrop of an incredible sunset and lightening storm.
