Yesterday was officially day 1 and it was quite an eventful day. We left our hostel around 10am and took a taxi to the South American Explorer's Clubclubhouse that we are apart of. Our taxi driver, Marco, spoke no English so it was a good chance to practice Spanish. Oh and let me just say, you have to be a damn good driver in Lima, I thought Rome was crazy but I thought we were going to crash into other cars about 50 times. After an hour in the taxi, we make it to the clubhouse. After spending time there we head out to the city of Lima. Lima has beauty but it is also the South American version of NY City. Walking around this city is incredibly frightening. But we found our way to the Malecon, a beautiful 4 mile trail that hugs the coastline. Such beautiful cliff sides, yet Big Sur is better haha. We found stone stairs that were embedded into the cliff so we could reach the ocean. And yup Peru coast climate is almost identical to Monterey. The water and animal life was incredibly similar as well. There were thousands of cormorants, brown pelicans and great tide pool life as well like chitons and limpets. After our time in the southern Pacific Ocean we head back to the city. We found a park called, Parque 7 de Julio, but we named it Parque de Los Gatos. The amount of stray but healthy looking cats in the park was ridiculous. People would just pick up a cat and have them sitting in their laps or nestled in their jackets, very adorable but odd. By this time night has hit Lima and the city was bustling. At this point, Michelle and I are extremely exhausted so we made it back to our hostel and passed the hell out.
Now for today, we are minimizing our load and storing items at the clubhouse and doing last minute things in the big city before we depart. Tomorrow we leave for Paracas, which is about 4 hours south of Lima. Overall though, glad I saw Lima but I am glad it was only for a couple days. Will check in again at Paracas. :)
