The Worlds most dangerous road - WMDR
There are 4 rules to riding this road and with them I am able to explain the whole day!
Rule 1 - HAVE FUN
We of course had a great time. Starting at 5000m high and ending the day at a measly 1000m in an animal refuge.
Riding was sweet with double suspension KONA bikes. Speeding down the road with a sheer drop on one side and a huge rock face on the other. Then to finish the day we had capuchin monkeys and squirrel monkeys jumping all over us like we were a playground and pick-pocketing us of course! Awesome!
N.B. Lara was peed on by a capuchin and didnt wash the t-shirt till 2 weeks after....what a grosser!!
Rule 2 - LOOK GOOD
This rule was easy for us to abide by as we are pin-ups for good looks and looking good! Although we wore all black and the only thing visable on us for the the first half of the ride was our mouths and our eyes through the googles, this is because it was snowing and wet. By the time we reached halfway down we didnt hesitate to strip off as many clothes as legally allowed so that we could feel the heat!
Rule 3 - LISTEN TO YOUR GUIDES
Phil and Cristo were fountains of knowledge when it came to the ride and they loved to tell us where dumb tourists had died on the ride by falling off the edge, or how injuries happen when people follow the lanscape and not the road and consequntly ride off the edge, which is sometimes 700m down with only jagged rocks to help break the fall!!!
N.B. The two best deaths on a tour!!
1. Girl straddling her bike at a standstill taking a photo, looses her balance (only she knows how she lost her balance, as its beyond me!!) and plumets to her death.
2. Definitely my favorite! A group were getting their photo taken by the guide who took one step too far...... Adios amigos! What I would like to know is if the group got a refund? And when they recovered the camera how did the photo come out? Bet is was a cracker!
Rule 4 - DON'T BE AN IDIOT!
Maybe the people above should have paid more attention to this rule! This is why we choose the most expensive company as most of them are run by a bunch of cowboys who dont tell you the dangers and the risk you could take by being stupid!!!
Thanks Gravity Biking for a super day!!!!!
