What a cruel thing is war: to separate and destroy families and friends, and mar the purest joys and happiness God has granted us in this world; to fill our hearts with hatred instead of love for our neighbors, and to devastate the fair face of this beautiful world. ~Robert E. Lee, letter to his wife, 1864
I don't have too long since I have to pay to get online, but I wanted to say I am safely in Saint Malo, a beautiful town right on the coast of the Atlantic. Today we went through the Peace Museum and then to Omaha Beach.
It was really one of the most profound experiences I have ever had, the power of the beach was totally overwhelming. Seeing the thousands of graves really sent home the horror of the war and the sheer number of lives lost. It was really just a totally overwhelming experience. I mean, you can feel the emotions still all around on the beach, the horror of what happened there will be there forever.
The Museum was also really eye opening, I know all about the Holocaust but every time I go anywhere and learn more about it, I am totally destroyed but the horrible things that happened to these innocent lives. It's just....wow.
Today has been a very emotioinally exhausting day and I am very much looking forward to just going to a small village and exploring it tomorrow.
Well, I need to get to bed,
Bon soir and please look at the pictures I've put up of todays trips!
