Hello this is Andie
The following post may be rather similar to the previous two but I wrote it a while ago and it got deleted before I could put it up! Fortunately, the lovely off explorinig team recovered it and sent it to me, so here goes...
Hello everyone... Its Andie here AKA Dr Drea. I just read my last post and must apologise for terrible grammer and the occassional sentence that made no sense at all... I blame this computer because it keeps writining different places and i don't notice!
The week beginning the 9th (Yes, I know thats a tuesday but it was a bank holiday! Honestly) was supposed to be spent with the palliative care team. However, after driving for about an hour to see a patient, only to find they had left for the hospital the day before, I decided that the rest of it would be better spent on the female medical ward! Nevertheless, the one good aspect to the palliative care trip was that we got invited onto someone's farm and plied with oranges. That is the yearly vitamin c sorted.
The week didn't really perk up on the female medical ward though as it was one medical horror after another and driving around the countryside in search of elusive patients probably would have been more successful. I saw one poor girl get about 40 missed attempts at cannulation in 10 minutes!
...Anyway less of the serious stuff- I know what you really want to hear about. The other day, to my surprise, I saw a gecko fall off the wall (they can walk on ceilings so this is highly unusual). On deciding to inspect this phenomenon closer I saw that the gecko, which was tiny and in the bathroom, had become disabled by a pubic hair wrapped around its back legs!!!!
Last weekend was spent investigating the local town Tanga better...
On the saturday we went to the yacht club; we got little motorbikes called piki pikis from the bus stop. None of the drivers could understand what we were saying when we asked to go to the "Yacht club" but when we said "Yatch club" they looked at us as if to say, of course, why didn't you say so earlier?! Puzzling.
We swam out to a pontoon that is just off shore in wild abandon presuming that the waters were completely safe. After throwing ourselves and each other off a couple of times we were resting with our feet in the water when a giant jellyfish swam inches below us!!! Being the bunch of wimps that we are we made a 16 year old girl (the heroic Nina who grew up here) come and rescue us on a giant surfboard and we paddled back to shore!!! Shameful.
Right now we are back at the lovely beach resort Peponi (which means paradise) and the only thing ruining the peace is the sound of the mosque with its relentless and widely broadcasted call to prayer. This noise cuts through the calm sounding like, what can only be described as, a dying donkey!
Now, 26th August, we are in Zanzibar!!! Woop. We have finished our placement in Teule and were really sad to be leaving!!... But then, we had a beautiful flight over and completely forgot all about it lol.
