Day 83 Margaret River
Full day of sightseeing today around the region. After a lovely breakfast in the restaurant here which is on stilts over the lake we set off for Margaret River itself. Whilst Cape Lodge's postal address is Margaret River it is actually half an hour away in the middle of the wine region. We parked the car and went for a walk around the town where we found a small Sunday Market which we wandered around. Whilst we were looking at the stalls we noticed one that had a Thermomix on it which is advertised as an all in one kitchen, anyway we started talking to the couple who were selling them, Klaus who was German and Trish who came from Liverpool. They suggested some places for us to visit and also for when we are in Singapore. She also gave us a business card for a guest house that they run. We had thought we might head up towards Perth tomorrow but have now decided that we'll stop with them. Once we left Margaret River we headed towards Prevelly Beach where there was a surf competition on. That was quite something, sitting on a beach watching these huge waves roll onto shore with these guys riding down what looks like a cliff face. This place had a weird wave formation as they effectively came from two opposite directions and met in the middle on shore. Bill was paddling on the shore line when one of these waves "met" and although he was only in water half way up his calves the water completely soaked him up to his waist. After we left the beach we called in on a couple of wineries but they were really pretentious and not very friendly so we left pretty smartish and came back to the hotel and had a swim in the pool; will try one or two others tomorrow that Trish has recommended.
