Day 82 Perth to Margaret River
We left Jennifer and David's house in Perth this morning to travel down to Cape Lodge in Margaret River. They offered to take us into the CBD to pick up our hire car but we decided to catch the bus instead to save them the bother; it's such an easy journey as the bus stops at the end of the road. Bill joked last night that we would end up with a Hyundai Getz especially as we have had some really good upgrades and as we are heading to this five star hotel never really believing that we would but guess what, no upgrade and we have a Getz, manual rather the automatic that we have had before and really basic. This place is a bit pretentious so we are having to "hide" the car! By the time we had returned to pick up our cases it was 11:30, somewhat later than we had intended and as it is a 3+ hr drive we needed to stop for lunch. Busselton was our choice and as well as picking up some wine and beer we went for a pie shop. Pies are really big here and in NZ and the choice is vast with bakers specialising in their own varieties. Bill chose a Hunters pie which was venison and I had a Footy, well as it is our name it was a bit of a given really, very good it was too. Lunch over we proceed to our destination some 40 miles further on. We hadn't realised that this place was actually half an hour outside Margaret River and pretty much in the middle of nowhere. When we arrived we were in the middle of a wedding taking place in the grounds and closing the restaurant for the evening. They had assumed we'd been notified by our agent of this, yeh right. They suggested we had room service but as the only choice was sandwiches or a cold platter to share coming in at $160 to $190, over £100 so we decided to get in the car and go to the nearest town 20 mins away where we bought our own selection of meats, prawns, salads etc and very nice it was too. Now nice long Jacuzzi bath with more wine, this is the life…….
