Landed in Nashville. You know you are in Music City when there is a musician playing before you even get to baggage claim.
At baggage claim there are wooden rocking chairs to sit on and a signed McCartney Epiphone guitar on display.
We get a €1.70 shuttle bus to Music City Central and then a free shuttle bus to our hotel. It is a short uphill walk from the stop to our hotel and there is a bar beckoning us. We succumb and stopped for a beer, or two! Met a local guy with a really cute dog called Fitz.
Have to say Nashville surprised me by how warm and friendly the people are, locals and tourists. There is a really relaxed atmosphere and although the bars can get really full, there is never a sense of aggression that you can get in England. Everyone is there to enjoy themselves and want you to do the same. We are staying in The Gulch which is an up and coming part of Nashville. A lot of city professionals live there and it has good bars/restaurants and shops. There is a free bus service around the city and we easily shuttle between our hotel and downtown Nashville. Local information is warmly provided by the drivers, sometimes the passengers too!
Luckily we managed to get tickets to the Springsteen concert while there. He was fantastic! As always, he put on a good show. Clarence's nephew was amazing. Joe Morello was wicked. And Dad witnessed crowd surfing for the first time when Bruce launched himself into the audience!
National Record Store Day also coincided with our trip. Jack White's recording studio, Third Man Records, is 15 minutes walk from our hotel. He achieved a Guinness World Record for the fastest selling single. He performed & recorded Lazaretto at the studio before it was rushed to the presses and sold. We hung around in the happy crowds for a few hours, enjoying the atmosphere, the free beers and pizza! The sun was blazing and my forehead was burning, so it was necessary to purchase a Third Man Record store Bandana from the Rolling Record Store. Jack appeared again just before 2pm with his fastest selling record. The convey of cars & bikes arrived, the bikes came up past me and he got out. He walked right past me waving the record proudly in his hand. It was then officially declared the fastest selling record. There is a long queue for the single. But is only available that day, that venue, so had to be done. Result is a limited edition 45'' and sunburn!
Bye bye Nashville, hello Memphis!
