We drove all the way to Mataranka from Darwin to turn off to Roper Bar. It took all day, about 8 hours. When we got there we set up and went for a walk to see the river crossing, or the Bar. Jack and Will had a rock-skipping competition, of course Jack won but Will was in front for a while. Then we went back to the van to have happy hour and relax.
The next day we drove to Tomato Island for morning tea and to check the roads. We left there then the road got really REALLY BUMPY! We kept on driving for a few hours more till we got to Butterfly Falls. It was also a lovely spot and we got it to ourselves. It was a quiet place and hot with heaps of plants. There was a water hole surrounded by tall walls of rocks that had a waterfall in the middle but we could not swim in it because it was stagnant. We also played in the sand while Mum and Dad relaxed. That night we had a fire that kept us company then we played a card game called Spoons.
I lost because I am bad at it.
The next morning we went to the Lost City. It’s a place of huge, tall rocks that makes it look like a city. It was amazing how it formed like that and how they stayed like it. The rocks started to be made a very long, long time ago; 1500 MILLION years ago! Then after that they got eroded to make the tall rocks.
