We drove 400km today, stopping for lunch at the Billabong roadhouse and Hamelen pool (photo). Hamelin pool is home to a large colony of stomatolites - living rocks made from cyanobacteria - they were the first life form on Earth 3.5 billion years ago. We are now staying at Denham CP and will visit Monkey Mia tomorrow.

We left Kalbarri this morning after little sleep thanks to a windy night and screaming twin babies in the camper next to us. I am so glad we waited until the kids were older to do this trip! A quick stop to look at the gorgeous Murchison River gorge further up, then onto Shark Bay.

The gorges around the Murchison river in the Kalbarri NP are awesome. We walked out to Natures window (photo) but decided not to do the 8km hike as it was quite hot today. We then went to the Z Bend and walked down to the river, a 2.6km "demanding hike". It was steep and lots of rock scrambling but we all really enjoyed it and explored the gorge for a while. We met a geologist from Canada who was studying the arthropod and other fossils in the gorge rocks.

Kaidan had been begging us to go canoeing so this morning Jeff took the boys canoeing around the mouth of the Murchison river. We then all went for a swim before heading out to the national Park.

A 7km drive along the beach from the camp site to this beautiful lagoon (photo). The boys went snorkeling in the lagoon. Across the sand dune, the Indian ocean was wild against a rocky ledge. We are staying at the Wagoe Beach chalets campground for a few nights while we explore Kalbarri.
