Kya Travels
We woke up this morning and chatted with Hoyt and a sorry and hungover Will as he was packing up to leave. Will left and Hoyt headed to work and we (armed with a house key this time!) headed down to Fremont. We got a coffee and went to a Russian Dumpling place for some food. They were almost like a cross between dumplings and ravioli, served with toppings like sour cream and vinegar or chilli. It was pretty nice, but I can see how it got it's reputation as a 'drunk food' place rather than a restaurant. After a snack there we got some cash and jumped on a bus to take us back to the Seattle Centre. Once we got off the bus we had to detour by a few blocks because of the weird Seattle roads, but made it to the EMP area, where we would be meeting our tour guide for the day for our Stalking Seattle Rock'n'Roll tour. We were about an hour early so we went to sit in the shade and got a shaved ice drink (like a snow cone) and used the wifi for a while. When it was time we headed down to meet the tour group. The guide, ???, met us in her minivan and we were just waiting for one more, as there was a cancellation by one couple who woke up sick. We were joined by 11 year old Elijah who was a huge Nirvana fan, and actually a really cool kid! His mum, Joanne, decided to join us as well, seeing as there was room now. See pdf We cruised up the street until we spotted their friends, Clare and her son, they jumped in the van and we got dropped off at the Crocodile Bar. After thanking and tipping ??? we went in and got a table. We ordered some beers and pizza and had a chat with them all. We got to see a youtube video of the boys' band playing White Stripes at a school event, which was awesome! We ate some average pizza and looked at the awesome photos they had framed on the walls from the grunge era and after a while we said bye to the guys as they headed off. We left as well and walked down the street a while to go check out the central saloon. By the time we got there we'd kind of hit the wall, so we just ordered a beer and chilled at the bar. We chatted with a guy named Joe, and a girl named Brooklyn (who left not long after, I have a feeling she was happy for an excuse to leave Joe!) and had a couple of beers. A band started setting up so we decided we'd hang around a little longer and check it out. Joe was trying to get us to come to the bar next door that he works at to watch him do some karaoke, but we still had full beers so thought we'd wait until we finished those while we watched the band. They were pretty ****** though! One guy was good but way to egotistical on the guitar, the drummer was okay but playing to his own rhythms, and the girl on bass just had no idea! So the whole thing could have been awesome, but they weren't working together and it was all out of time and didn't work to anyone's strengths! It was hardly listenable! When our beers were finished Joe was back at the bar, and apparently we had missed his song and he seemed annoyed at us. So we finished our beers and headed next door to J&M's for some karaoke. It was even worse. A couple of horrible performances followed by a couple of girls brutally murdering Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody! We left halfway through that (and I even left half my beer) and went back to the Central. The girl at the bar here was suddenly much nicer to us, with Joe gone! Apparently they all hate him and he always goes in there annoying them! The second band was just about to start so we got another drink, hoping they'd be better than the last one. No such luck! It was a trio of super feminine girls with songs like 'We don't like boys', and one girl bashing the **** out of a glockenspiel, and the sound engineer probably didn't have some of his high frequencies, so the mix was super trebly and horrible! So we finished our drinks and left. We jumped in a cab and made our way back to the house. Everyone was in bed already so we just chilled. I had a chat with a guy who was on the balcony a few apartments over then not too long later we went to sleep.
