Kya Travels
I woke up pretty early today and couldn't sleep for a while so I just wifi'd a little before going back to sleep. I think I vaguely heard Amit say goodbye before he went to work, then when we woke up we walked down with Hoyt to get some breakfast before he had to go to work as well. We walked down past the troll under the bridge and down to the waterfront to a little cafe called Solsticio. We got a coffee and ordered some breakfast and had a chat for a bit, getting some suggestions for places to see in Vancouver as well. When my breakfast burrito came out it had meat in it, so I had to wait longer for my meal while the boys ate theirs. After breakfast we said goodbye to Hoyt and kept walking along the waterfront to Gasworks park. We had a quick walk around the park there, which had some awesome views over the city, and an old rusted out structure that I assume was the old gasworks, due to the name. After a quick stroll there, we headed back towards the house. We stopped in as we passed the Fremont Brewing Company where we grabbed a 6-pack to leave as thanks to Hoyt and Amit then we walked back up the hill past the troll again and went home. We chilled out for a while, got showered and packed, and found a jacket Will had left there that he'd asked us to bring to Vancouver when we went. Amit arrived home at some stage (or was he already there, I'm not sure, he kind of just appeared) and said a quick hi and bye to us before going up to his room, then we had a little snooze for a bit. When it was time, we grabbed our bags and wandered down to the bus stop and got a bus down through the city to the train station. From there it was about a 15 minute walk to the Greyhound bus centre, where we checked in and found a place to wait. Darren went to find us some snacks for the bus while I waited with our bags, and came back with some nice cheese, crackers, nuts and chocolate. We finally got to board and headed off to Vancouver. It was a pretty uneventful trip which I spent mostly blogging. About 3 hours in, we got to the Canadian border crossing where, after waiting in line for a while, we had to grab all our bags and go into the building to go through customs. We got asked some weirder than usual questions, like 'who payed for our trip', then went straight back through and got back on the bus. There was another wait when we were back on then finally the bus kept on going. We chatted with a group of young Irish girls as we made our way into the city. When we finally arrived in Vancouver an hour later than expected, we just jumped in a cab instead of getting on the train and made our way to Lena's house, who is a friend we made in Czech Republic and met again in Turkey on our 2013 Europe trip. We got to her address and called for her through the open balcony window, where she appeared smiling and came down to let us upstairs. We got into the lounge and had a chat with her, and her boyfriend Mike, who were leaving in a week for an extended trip to Africa! So if we were a week later, we would have missed them! They were both working early in the morning so we didn't stay up much later, and when they went to bed we got some washing on and sorted out where we would sleep. They had two couches but one was quite small so I put some cushions on the ground and set myself up there, and we went to sleep.
