Kya Travels
Hung. Over. That's all I have to say. We went down for breakfast, and I had one spoonful of porridge then changed my mind. It's not fair, no one else was as hung over as me!! And the beers I was drinking were organic, so I shouldn't have such a bad hangover! We got on the bus, and all our crew from last night were all up the back, but I opted to sit up the front like a little sick loner.. :P We stopped at a little pier with a great view across the water to Eilean Donan Castle. I had a walk around in the fresh air, and felt a bit better when we got back on the bus, but I stayed up the front! We made our way to the North-West of Scotland, where we crossed the bridge over to the Isle of Skye! Our first stop there was at The Sligachan River. We walked down to the river, where Kay told us a story with the help of her assistants, Darren, Ash (from Sydney) and V. Ash's character was marrying Darren's character to unite the clans, but on the way there, she fell off her horse and wrecked her beautiful face! Her manservant, who was also from Darren's clan (V's character) helped hide the face until they were married, but when they got to the wedding Darren's character lifted her veil and was disgusted, so he cut off both of their ears... Anyway, in the end, they met the faerie Elfin, who took them to the river, and told them to dip their faces in the river for 7 seconds and they will become beautiful again. Ash married V and all was good between the clans after all! So after the story, Kay got everyone to dip their faces in the water for 7 seconds. When it was my turn, I did it, and took a few gulps of the fresh fresh water. Delicious! It was extremely helpful for the hangover! Our next stop was the lunch stop, in a little town called Portree. There was a bakery in town that was highly recommended to us, and I was getting pretty pumped for bakery food! We got in there though, and there was hardly any veggie food. Only one savoury option, which was a little cheese and herb twist. So I got a bunch of those, and Darren got about 3 different things to try! Mine were tasty, but I had my hopes too high for amazing bakery food, so I was a little disappointed. We went for a walk down the street, and Darren bought an Irnbru flavoured ice-cream, which was pretty delicious. We had a look through a few little shops after being kicked out of one for having an ice-cream! Then I went back for more twists and went back to the bus after another couple of little shops. On the way to our next stop, we got told a story abut the giants on Skye. It was hilarious because it was pretty much the exact same story as the Irish tell at Giants Causeway, except with the roles reversed! So funny! No idea who had the story originally! So we stopped at a place called Kilt Rock, which was their giants kilt hung out to dry. It's pretty much a giant cliff face that looks like the pleats on a kilt. After Kilt Rock, we stopped again just down the road at another lookout. To get to the lookout you had to go through the "lovers gate", so everyone who went through had to hug/kiss the next person that went through. So there was a lot of what Kay calls DSL going on! (Deep Scottish Love!) the view here was absolutely breathtaking, sheer cliffs dropping straight into the ocean, topped with rolling green hills. So good! A bunch of us stood on a little hill at the edge of the cliff and jumped off onto the grass in front, to get a jumping photo! That was pretty fun. After that stop, we headed back off the Isle of Skye to the mainland where we went back to the Eilean Donan castle. We went inside and got given a mini tour of a few rooms by men in kilts, and then were allowed to explore the castle by ourselves. Darren got talking to one of the guides, who showed him some of the original features of the castle that weren't on display. There was a bunch of us in the castle together, and on the staircase we all started singing "scat man" which is Kay's morning song that she plays every day! In the castles kitchen there were a bunch of mannequins posed doing different things around the table, and we all took up a pose as well, and stayed perfectly still to try scare the next people to come in the room. Pity most of us were laughing or it would've been awesome! We left the castle and started walking back across the bridge to the bus... Then I realised no one else was coming... So I just kept walking back really slowly so they'd catch up. They didn't come for a while though, and eventually I saw Kay get off the bus and she came across to go find the others! Oops! They were only twenty minutes late...! When everyone was finally back on board, we headed back to Fort Augustus. When we got back, it was nice and sunny, which is a shame it didn't get sunny earlier, as it had been "atmospheric" (Kay's word for overcast and ******), and lots of "liquid sunshine" (rain), for the whole time on Skye! We decided to make the most of the Vitamin D, and a bunch of us walked down to the bank of Loch Ness, where we sat monster spotting for a while, and got some pretty cool group shots by the water. We walked back to the hostel afterwards, where we had lasagne for dinner! We grabbed our plates and went to sit outside and eat. Unfortunately as soon as we all sat down, the midges came out and starting attacking us! So we were forced back inside to the bar. What a shame... Over dinner we had a bit of a Facebook adding session, and our group all passed the phones around and added each other, then Darren and I headed upstairs for a nap. This time Darren woke me up, and I didn't want to get up! I did anyway though, and we went down to the bar. Not long after we got down there, the toga party started! Alasdair, the bartender came out to the kitchen and helped everyone put on their kilts, toga style! Then everyone had a long night of drinking and dancing. Shin-hao from Malaysia came down, and we got him dressed in a kilt. He had been very quiet the whole trip, and it was great to see everyone bring him in to the party. We got some tunes on, and he busted out some break dance moves! Amazing! Where has this guy been hiding?? Eventually, after some absolutely ridiculous dancing sessions, at about 2-3am, we decided it would be a good idea to go for a walk down to Loch Ness to watch the sunrise. Yep, it rises early here! We took the guitar down, and planned on having a little strum, and a few people (including Lyle), went in for a dip! Only up to their knees though. Apparently it shelves off quite suddenly, and we didn't know how far out, so they didn't go too far! After only a little while it started liquid sunshining a fair bit, so we packed up, said goodbye to Alasdair who was going the other way, and walked back. I got a sweet hot shower, then went to bed. I think Darren wasn't too far behind me, but he had stayed up a little while longer.
