Kya Travels
We slept in late today (back into our kind of rhythm!) then after a chat headed out to walk around town. We came to a restaurant, Old Cappadocia, and though we weren't really planning on eating, the guy out the front was very enthusiastic and convincing so we went in for a meal. I got a mixed meze plate and Darren got a traditional Anatolian Ravioli, which is served with a yoghurt and mint sauce, which is apparently very nice if you don't think of it as pasta. The place was ok, but as soon as the guy sat us down, the service wasn't that great anymore, as he was too busy out the front trying to get more customers! We had a laugh with him about it, although I don't think he knew exactly why we were laughing! We also tried a Turkish dessert we'd been recommended called Künefe, which was really strange. It was like a baked cheese that was coated in a sweet wheat and sugar mixture that almost tasted like coconut. It was very strange and tasted really specifically like something but we couldn't pick what it was! When we were done we went for a walk through town looking through a few souvenir shops then walked past a place called Fat Boys Café, which had a menu out the front that said Vegemite. We read it and thought surely it must be a typo, and supposed to say vegetarian or something, but then the owner came out and welcomed us in a thick Queenslander accent! We had a quick chat with him then kept walking through town. We petted the dog that had followed us the other day as a stall owner chucked a few pieces of kebab out for him which was cute. It was getting a bit cold so we wandered back down to Fat Boys Café where we got a beer and sat in a cosy corner for a couple of games of chess, which I'm proud to say I kept my winning streak and won both games! We headed back to the hostel after that to pick up our bags then went down to the bus station and got our tickets. Then Darren realised he'd lost his headphones! So we left our bags at the tourist desk and went back to the hostel. They weren't in the room, and there was no one at reception so I went down to the travel agency and the guy there came back and checked all the drawers but they weren't anywhere to be found. So we walked back through town, and Darren was quite a bit annoyed. We stopped at the supermarket, but they didn't sell any, so we bought some snacks for the bus instead, then headed back towards the bus station and went in a little music shop we'd passed a few times where some English and Turkish people were hanging out. We chatted to them about music and hung out for about 10 minutes before it was time to go back to the bus. It was running late though, and Darren chatted with a couple of Aussies from Sydney, then the bus finally showed up, which ended up being a shuttle bus to Nevsehir, where we had to change buses. Darren went to the bathroom while I put our bags on the bus, then Tom (aussie guy) came to find me to say he found a shop inside that sold headphones! So when Darren got back we went inside with Tom where we found them, but they were all headsets for different types of phones, not simple jack inputs! We asked the guy at the counter who told us they had them next door, so we went over there and found a pair almost identical to the ones he'd lost! Yay! It won't be such a bad bus ride after all! We jumped on the bus then, and began the long trek back to Istanbul. It was a much nicer trip than the last one! The lights got turned off very soon into the trip, and the attendant was friendly and non-invasive! We watched a soundless show about lions and cheetahs, I blogged a bit, and we were entertained by the antics of an old man who may or may not have had Alzheimer's or something similar, then I turned in to try and get some sleep.
