Kya Travels
After a very uncomfortable 11ish hour train trip we finally arrived in Tanger. We got our things together and headed through the station and got into a taxi to go to the port. I thought it was closer than it was, but apparently it's 45 minutes from there, so we drove through the hills and countryside for half an hour or so (a very uncomfortable drive, neither of us were feeling too fresh by the time we got there!) then bought our tickets and waited for the ferry. We got on a bus to take us down the docks to the ferry, then got on and found ourselves a couple of couches to lay down on. So in one trip, we caught a train, taxi, bus and ferry. Mental. After we got on, the ferry sat in the port for about an hour or more before it finally set off, and we were asleep on the couches before it had even moved! Once it started moving, it was only about an hour to cross over to Spain, and we finally got off onto Spanish soil, in Algeciras. Once there, we decided that was enough travel for now, (especially as Darren was sick) and decided to find a hotel there for the night. We got directions to the tourist information centre, which was closed down, then went to ask at the restaurant next door where it had moved to. He didn't know but directed us to a little travel shop that sold ferry tickets and that sort of thing. We asked there about a hostel and it turned out there was one right next door! Yay! So we went up the stairs and got a room there. The interior was decorated in a very Moroccan way, and it almost felt more like Morocco than the hotels in Morocco had! While Darren sorted out the business end of it, I was playing with a little kid who was probably about 3, and I think was the son of one of the owners or workers there. He was a bit of a cutie! Once we were in and settled we got some directions and set off for a walk down the street. We walked down along the waterfront for about half an hour or more, stopping for an ice cream on the way and eventually got to the big hotel we had been told to look for and went in there for more directions. Then we walked around the block to where there was a pharmacy that was open! Darren got some medication, which will hopefully fix him up in time for the tomato fight in a few days! Then we started the walk back. We stopped in a cafe for a cold drink, then walked back to the hostel where we went to the room and lay down to sleep the rest of the day and night away!
