Kya Travels
I woke up to the boat stopping so thought I'd get up and see where we were. I got ready and headed out onto the deck. And it was cold out there! There was a little bit of sun, but the breeze was pretty chilly, so I decided not to join the small group of brave people that had jumped in the water and hung out on the deck just watching instead! I got a seat and chilled out and read a book for a while until Darren got up. Darren was pretty brave and although everyone except Eillean and Mel were already out by now, he jumped in the water! (Only from the ladder though, not the top deck, because his ankle was still sore from his fall!) He got in and I got him a beer from the bar so he could join the girls with a drink in the water. I took a few photos, then not long after, they had convinced me to get in, so I grabbed myself a beer and got in as well! It wasn't that warm, but I got used to it by the time I had swum out to where they were sitting, on the rope that was anchoring the boat to shore! We hung out in the water for a little while, but got out not too much later as lunch was almost ready. We got out and shivered our way down to the room, where I claimed first shower and rinsed off. When we were both ready, we headed out (slightly late) for lunch and sat with Jess (one of the doctors from the other day) who was REALLY hungover! And to make it worse, it was her birthday! Sam, being a bit of a smart ****, bought her a shot for her birthday, and although she looked like she wanted to throw up at the sight of it, she put it down! After lunch she got some cake and we sang happy birthday to her. (Although I felt bad for Charlotte, as it was her birthday the first night, and she didn't get anything!) Not long after lunch we pulled up at our destination for the day, the island of Mljet! It was a very small town, and most of the island was a national park, so it was very natural and beautiful. We walked up to the supermarket where we found a bottle of wine for 30 kunas (~$6) then went for a walk with the guitar to find somewhere to chill out and play for a while, while most of the others from the boat had hired bikes and gone for a ride around the island. We walked up one way and ended up in what looked like someone's driveway, so we headed back in the other direction where we ran into Rachel, who was struggling to get up the hill with her bike. The chain came off as she was changing gears, so we walked with her back into town, then left her at the bike hire place and kept walking. We found some rocks and a bench by a small empty pool by the ocean and sat there for a bit playing guitar. Not long later though, we headed back to the boat, where we asked (really nicely!) if it were possible to get taken out to a small island we could see from the main island, and they said it was cool! One of the sailors, Jure, got the tender down from the ship and gave us a lift out there in the little boat and dropped us off, saying he'd come get us in two hours. We walked through a bit of parkland and found some pretty rocks by the pretty water with a pretty view and sat down to play guitar and drink our wine for a while! We waved to a boat-full of tourists and ended up writing a new song and just hung out on the rocks for a while. When our time was nearly up, we went for a quick explore around 'our' island then headed back to the meeting spot to wait for Jure to pick us up again. We watched the tender make its way to us, then jumped in, thanking Jure for taking us there and back then began the trip back towards the boat. When we were almost there, we could see some of the crew on the harbor, and Jure asked if we wanted to go for a cruise! So we stopped at the harbor, and Eillean, Mel, Jess (a different Jess!) and Asha got in, then we went for a cruise around the island we'd just been picked up from. It was so beautiful, the water was amazing and clear as glass, it was so nice! The girls had some beers which we shared with Jure, then as we were making our way back to the boat, the guitar came out (by request of Jure) and we gave it to Mel who started a beautiful rendition of Tracy Chapman's 'Revolution'. By the time we were pulling up to the boat the lyrics had changed to 'Talking bout Sail Croatia!' and we were all singing along, while a bunch of others from the boat who were sitting on the dock looked on jealously! We got off the tender and thanked Jure a million times then settled down with the others on the dock and listened to Mel play a few more covers, including two songs called Zombie, by The Cranberries and The Pretty Reckless. Not long later, the dinner bell on the boat rang and we all got back on board for some yummy pasta! We sat with Jess (from the tender trip!) Rachel and Katie, all of whom we somehow haven't hung out with yet, so it was a good opportunity for getting to know new people! And they were really cool! I ordered a bottle of wine, and Darren started on some bourbons, and we had a good chat and a laugh with the girls and got a little (or a lot) drunk! I played a game of chess against Jure and lost, but not as badly as I'd expected, seeing as the crew pass a lot of their time playing chess! Afterwards I attempted to teach Eillean how to play chess, then after that I don't really remember much more of the night! I was told I said I was going to the room to record a song that I was writing, but there were no recordings on my phone when I woke up, so I assume I just went to bed and passed out! Oops!
